Today I did the stupidest thing ever and my degus suffer... Virginia's "heat" started today. Usually she just tries to hump Alabama all time or makes typical saloon brawl when she throw all stuff around but no fur ball fight or anything like that. I totally didn't think and I cleaned their cage... As you can imagine lack of urine smell create a hierarchy problem and they make huge fur ball fight. I have to separate them but I usually separate them when Virginia is in a heat because Alabama can't sleep with Virginia hiperactivity. Unfortunatelly Alabama get lip wound (between nose and lip actually). I read saline solution bath is good for wounds. Is it a regular 0,9% NaCl solution? Should I use cottonpad with saline and clean wound?

We usually recommend that water be boiled, about a cup, once boiled, remove from heat, put in about a 1/4 teaspoon measure of salt, dissolve, let cool. Then apply gently, a cotton pad is OK.

OH . . . do you have any of the soiled substrate still on hand? If you do, a handful or two of that spread about the cage will help to remind them of how things stand between them.

If you have sterile saline solution like you would use in your eyes, that would be okay to use.
