I will try and explain this as clearly as I can!
We used to have 3 degu's, living as a pair and a single (Naughty - lives up to his name!), but after losing one of the pair we now have to lone mails living side by side. We introduce them and let them interact and they seem happy to chat away through their bars.
Initially we were a little worried about the remaining brother from the pair, but he seems to have adjusted well and likes having Naughty to chat to when he wants to. Naughty has been alone the whole time we have had him, and seemed content and built a good bond with me so has never been a worry.
He is 6 now and starting to look a bit ropey and old, but until very recently there has been no change in him apart from appearance. Over the past couple of weeks he has got quite skinny(I can feel his back bone over his shoulders and near his tail), but we haven't managed to weigh him yet. He is sleeping more and more and doesnt seem to want to eat his food but he will eat his treats and hay. He has always had an attitude and will always shout about it if you touch him when he doesnt want it, but lately he just curls into a ball and does a little squeal and hardly move. I am just wondering if this is because he is getting towards the end of his days, or a sign that something else is wrong?
Also, we have had an incident with the neighbours cat, who keep coming in and we have found a couple of poor prints on the glass of the cage. It's been a struggle as since its been so hot we have had to leave the window open but thats how the cat gets in. Could it be that he is suffering a bit of shock from this?
Thank you all for your help, I've written on here a few times when I've not known what is best and you're all so helpful
