My degu, Coco (5 months old) has been acting very odd lately. I have had her and her sister for around 2 months but ever since I got her she would just chew on the cage until I let her out to play some. She was always really active compared to her sister that shares a cage with her. I assumed that her cage chewing was due to the current size of the cage so we got a new, larger cage which is 79cm x 52cm x 140cm. This stopped the cage chewing but now she hardly moves. Last night I realized she was just sitting there instead of getting in her hammock even though she was obviously sleepy and yawning. Also, when I open the cage so they can go out and play Coco doesn't seem bothered and just stays in the cage. Last night I heard her barking and picked her up. It felt like she had lost weight and was shaking. I wasn't sure would could have been frightening her or why she has lost weight, I also noticed that her coat was a little greasy. she eats fine and there doesn't seem to be any food she turns away. her diet usually consists of Selective brand degu food, Timothy brand hay and occasionally treats such as pumpkin seeds or dandelion feast.

Welcome to the forum carmen212.
Does she use her sand bath? It is a good sign that she is eating. You should take her weight using a box on a scale, and then weigh her every day for the next week to find out if she is actually losing weight.

Could she be overheated?
If this is still ongoing, then I would take her to the vet.
Also you could check out or diet section and feeding guide for info on making the diet healthier and more interesting.
