Scaredygoo's had a month off from his Metacam, to give me a chance to see how much of a difference it's still making. He was rough when I got back from Cyprus, so I called the vet for some more. This time, I was given Loxicom. Exactly the same stuff, utility without the honey flavouring. Would he take it? Would he heck! He came up, sniffed the syringe, turned his nose up, and walked off. Tried putting it on a piece of dandelion root, same reaction. In fact, even when he did take the root, he then put it down, saw that the medication was on there, and abandoned it! I tried adding some flavouring, and even resorted to a burrito, except he kept his jaws clamped shut!
Admitted defeat yesterday, and called the vet to explain the situation. I collected Metacam today, filled the syringe, and fussy git came straight over to me and started drinking!

Hahaha he didn't want to go back to the vet the clever sod. They can be so defiant sometimes! I bought a bag of dried forage today, it was birch leaves and nettle for a fiver. He picked up a leaf, had a nibble and dropped it like a child being given sprouts. I swear if he was human, he'd live on junk food. Doesn't even touch fresh veg!

I've had rats, guinea pigs & degus on metacam - all loved it. Am tempted to try it if it's that yummy (I looove the smell/taste of that kid's penicillin medicine, I'd swap one of my kids for a bottle of that!! LOL) I think baytril must have a terrible taste, can't get that down any critter's neck when they need it. Must smell too 'cos they won't even go near the syringe. If I remember right it can be mixed with water though. I am really scared of burritoing a furry one, big or small. I am scared of hurting them accidentally. Am kinda hopeless with meds if they won't take it. Been known to take a goo 3 times a day to vets for getting meds down down his throat (of course they didn't do it for free) What are your tips for catching a degu & wrapping him/her up without hurting them? That's the bit I'm scared of the most. My little guy isn't handleable & none of my other five were (although they'd sit on my hand) so I can't just pick him up to start with.

Mine will only occasionally touch anything fresh, but I'm fine with that. My lot just don't stop eating, but I don't know where it all goes! When I've had to burrito a goo, I've had the tea towel standing by. The towel has to be right under the chin, and the body has to be well swaddled. I used to work in a chippy, so that's my wrap method of choice Tbh, after the last week, I'm just glad he's getting Metacam again. His arthritis looks like it's worsened a bit, and I have no qualms about continuing the medication for the rest of his life. My mum's also good at giving it to him, because he knows it's coming and walks straight up to her when she opens the cage door.
