Hello, I'm new to this forum, I couldn't find anything similar to the issue I'm having with my little goo so thought I'd see if anyone can help or know what it might be. Around two days ago I noticed a bald lump at the side of my degu Chip's mouth, the day before he'd had a fight with Dave (other degu) which left Dave with a bleeding paw that has healed well. Chip is perfectly happy in himself still running on his wheel and eating well. Could this be something to do with the fight/ possible infection? I'm so scared it's a tumor or something serious, please help! s31.postimg.cc/k92hk61uz/image.jpgpostimg.cc/gallery/2w1pmozq0/

I would take him to the vet, it could be an abscess although I can't see any broken skin, or could be coming from a dental problem, or from the fight. A decent vet will be able to examine inside and outside the mouth to work out what is going on. If you don't already have a degu experienced vet, I think we have one or two in your area on our list: deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15521/vet-guide?page=1

Good that Chip is eating and feeling fine.
Not sure what it is though – the roundness of it suggests it is filled with pus or something. I agree with moletteuk – it could be an abscess from the fight or, more likely, from a dental issue. If it is an infection, then it can be relieved (possibly cured, depending on the cause) with antibiotics. It could also be a tumor. A visit to the vet is needed.

Looks like an abscess from here, too. It looks rounded and a bit inflamed. Def a trip to the vet. You could also try dabbing it with salt water in the meantime.
It could be they were squabbling because Dave was getting too involved around Chip's swelling.

Have you booked an appointment with a vet? Or even had him seen already?

Thank you all for your replies. The lump has still not changed in appearance so we are going to take him to the vet either tomorrow or tuesday, struggling to find an exotic pet vet near however, if it's an abscess would a regular vet be able to sort it for him? Two goos are fighting awfully today, have had to split them up, not having a good time at all, just wish they'd get on and stop hurting eachother!

If it is an abscess not caused by a teeth issue, then a regular vet may be able to help. Best thing though is to find a vet that can deal with/diagnose a dental issue so if they have Chinchilla experience, or even guinea pig or rabbit experience, they might be able to help.

It's best to ring and ask about their degu experience and gauge how happy they are to treat degus, they don't necessarily need to be exotics certified. They will need to be fairly hands on to get a look in his mouth without sedation. We do have a W Sussex vet recommended on our list near Horsham deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15521/vet-guide?page=1
