I heard one time that the company Vitakraft made food specifically for degus, but since I hadn't seen any, and I checked their website and didn't see it on their site either, I decided to email an inquiry about it to Vitakraft. I received a reply that they're in the process of making one and it should (although not for certain, may be longer) should be available by the late summer! yay ^_^
I know big pet stores such as PETsMART carry Vitakraft products, so hopefully they'll carry this one too!

I've been feeding Degus Pellets from Brisky pet products on line. My Degus seem to be florishing. Does anyone have any feelings either way about the Brisky pet foods?

Where do you get the Brisky pellets? I'm sure I'd probably have to order them, since every pet store around here knows absolutely NOTHING about degus! You should see the looks I get from salespeople. Of course, up until December, I'd never heard of them either...

When i was doing my research on degus i read that ther are brands of degu food on the market. BUT it also said that its not sutible for degus at all because of the ingredients! I took her advise and i buy either Charlie Chinchilla food or the safest way is to buy rodent mix and a very importent part of their diet Alfafa pellats. they are small long green sticks an is suposed to be very important in there diet. any one herd of it?

all my searches for degu food have always come out basically empty. I found one small company in Germany, but they only sell in Germany. I found another company that was the same deal. I remember the Brisky degu food being mentioned before and had checked it out when I first heard of it, but we can't really afford to order it in. We were also concerned about how long it would take to get here as well as we were told by a vet that pet food loses their nutrients overtime. We have a book that recommends mixing guinea pig food with rat food. We've also read that some Chinchilla mixes are okay as well. We've looked at all the small animal/rodent foods in most of the petstores in our area and NONE of them are any good, there's always a few things that just don't belong. We feed our guys Living World's Classic Chinchilla mix (as from all the stuff we looked at it has the least amount of junk). We've started pulling out the sweet stuff such as the Papaya and raisins, we leave the dried banana bits as there seems likes there's only ever like 5 pieces of it in the whole bag. I was looking at Brisky's site today to double check my memory, and was surprised that under the treat section for degus they had a lot of sweet stuff and meat (I've read that degus are vegetarians). The mix we feed our guys is mostly made up of the alfalfa pellets, but they avoid these as much as they can.. they're bad boys that only like the sweets! ahhhh. I've read that hay is very important to their diet and makes up most of their diet (we give our guys timothy's all natural hay, they eat it all the time). I'm not sure about the alfalfa pellets and alfalfahay though... I read today that alfalfa is actually quite bad for degus.... (achhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all this conflicting information is driving me nuts!!). Here's a link to the information about alfalfa: www.paw-talk.net/forums/archive/index.php/t-5199.htmlHope the link works.

TEXTWow do I feel luck when it comes to feeding my girls! I have four girls and they are all young four months but they all like there guinea pig pellets, timothy and Alfalfa hay, Romaine lettuce, carrots, once in a while sunflower seeds, and Almonts raw. But the nuts are not something I give my girls often. I was giving the Soya beans, but I won't do that anymore I wasn't thinking about the protean in them. Sometimes they like a little alfalfa sprouts. I guess my girls are just not that fussy really. I wish everyone good luck with their guys and may all our little friends live a long happy and healthy life. TEXT

Hello, the Degu food from Vitakraft has been on the German market for quite a while, and the first generation was a degu killer (how much sugar and carbohydrates can you fit in a box?). Now the second generation is out since about a year, wich is better (only a carbohydrate bomb, less sugar than the first generation), but still not really suitable for degus. The small German company Shigatsu is talking about, I reckon is JR Farm. At the moment their degu food is definitely the most suitable for degus that I know. The company itself sells only within Germany, but there are some dealers online selling it abroad (at least all over western Europe). Try the following links: (sites are in German, but when you sent them an e-mail enquiry, you should get an answer/offer very soon) www.das-heimtierparadies.dewww.futterplanet.dewww.futterparadies.deI only can reckomend the JR Farm degu food. The best mix I know. It is green and the degus really like it!
