Just a quickie as not particularly worried at the moment but just thought i'd ask just in case I don't know of something. One of my degus started sneezing a week ago and now the other two have started. There's nothing new in the room or cage and no new batches of anything to suggest an irritant. No real temp fluctuations. No differences in levels of activity, behaviour or eating and no snot or sounds of breathing difficulty or congestion. Anything to watch out for or just a simple degu cold? Strangely I myself have just been down with a virus which involved very minor congestion but plenty of sneezing and just a bit achy but didn't think they could catch anything off me??? THank you in advance

Degus don't really get a simple cold. Any kind of respiratory infection in degus, as in rats, can be very difficult to treat. The sooner it is looked in, the better for your degus. I think you should have them checked out by your vet. As for catching it off you, no, they can't catch from us.

Hey sooo sorry I didn't reply, I didn't see your reply at the time and barely got any chance to get back online at the time as had a bit of a hard time but didn't want to seem rude so thought better late than never. Thank you though, I quickly realised they were only sneezing when I came anywhere near - it was a new perfume I was wearing lol

LOL!! Good deducing by you! Did you stop wearing that perfume? I was in a clothing store recently and was talking to a clerk from several feet away. She then came close to help me with a fitting, and immediately I started sneezing. I've never experienced that, and couldn't figure why I was uncontrollably sneezing like that. She backed away and said, "Oh no! It must be my perfume! I've been told that several times today!" Sure enough it was. Soon as she was several feet away again, the sneezing subsided. I didn't get close to her again, LOL!

Yep, stopped as that was what was causing me and my daughter to sneeze too, I thought it was the flu we had but the sneezing continued, then I had a slob day where I stayed in my pjs for a day, no sneezing. Next day, I sprayed the blinking perfume and the house started sneezing again lmao!! They could sell it as "keep people away" spray instead for those that are anti-social lol :-)
