Thank you all. I have lost 3 goos in the past few weeks – 4 since June. It's so difficult with these guys – have had to be the one to make the decision to put them down – something I have never been comfortable with but that I am now resigned to doing. I am especially disturbed about what happened to Sean. If only I had noticed earlier. Today I am taking Go (or is it Shi? – these two look so much alike) to the vet – she's been sitting all puffed up. At least she is still eating – slowly though. Also looks as though someone in that cage has a bit of diarrhea. Not sure if it is her. Now that everyone is at least 4 years old (Peridot is almost 6), I wish I could take everyone in for a checkup every three months.

I think you need to cut yourself some slack and remember you are caring for special needs degus, it's impossible to spot everything early and time vet visits and PTS exactly perfect to the day. I hope it doesn't sound too crass if I say I hope that not having to care for Lilac and Meiyo so intensively will give you a bit of time and head space to recharge a little and catch up with the others.
Hope all goes welll at the vets today. Does the diarrhoea smell bad? You might be able to sniff bums to work out who it is. Hopefully it doesn't smell bad and isn't anything too serious, in which case you still might be able to see who has a dirty bottom, or you might be able to see who is fussing at themselves to try and clean themselves up.

You are right on regarding having more time/better head space for the others now that I don't have any palliative degus to care for. Sad but true. (Poor Sean though.) I probably would have noticed Go's issue earlier if I wasn't so involved with Lilac, Sean and Meiyo. Just thought Go was begging to eat the same food as her mom and Meiyo because she wanted treats; turns out that she was probably having trouble eating regular food all along. The diarrhoea does not smell bad. However, it might have to with the large growth in Go's lower abdomen. I am starting a new thread to follow this new issue and update on Go's dental issues.
