Currently using a 4ft tall john hopewell cage but I'm looking at changing to a custom built home. I was thinking of picking this up But it's 2 hours away and I'm not sure it's deep enough. So, just looking into building one from scratch But it's very hard to get hold of glass the right size!

I don't think this is deep enough, so unless it is worth getting just for the doors, I would leave it.
(You can use mesh doors with deep shelf edging and the mess shouldn't be too bad.)

Wow . . . too bad that isn't another 12 inches/30cm deep. I wonder how hard it would be to add to it. If a second used bookshelf of the same width could be paired up with the back, shelves adjusted to the same heights, back wall thingy removed, and any gap bridged . . . bah, WAY too much work!!

I might go for it just for the glass. If I build.one myself.It's.going to cost at least £40 just for the glass. I should be able to.get this for 50 and if I extend it from the back it shouldn't be too hard to modify.

How long is it? Quite often, those things are only 80 cm long so it would not be worth going for it.

I think modifying it will be more trouble than building from scratch, I also agree with Maravilla it's probably only 80cm wide.
If you are interested in a conversion project, check out your local auction houses, they usually have a weekly or fortnightly sale of that type of stuff and are usually cheap.
