I have recently noticed that a strange very white patch has appeared on one of my degus, Jose. It is by his back leg, and near to his underside, so a picture was impossible. I know that the underside of a degu is a cream colour, but this patch is properly white in colour, and seems to be bordered by a small amount of blackish coloured fur. The patch of white fur is around a centimetre wide, and two long. Can a degu sometimes randomly develop these patches of coloured fur? I have noticed no recent health changes with Jose.

I would guess this is something you just haven't noticed before. There isn't really a health condition which causes fur to change colour, not without hair loss.
If you look closely, the underside and sometimes down the legs, and the base of their feet all have random patches of different paler colours which are different in each degu.

When Herc was around a year somewhere a white patch of hair appeared on his left hip area out of the blue (developed over a couple of days - never hair loss, injury or anything and is still there at 3 1/2 years old).
I love it - helped me to tell them apart lol.
Sorry don't have a picture uploaded - I will try to find one this weekend if I have time to show you.
I would just watch for other symptoms and if nothing comes up, no worries.

Thanks. He has nothing else wrong with him, and seems perfectly happy. I did nore research and Degutopia said that some degus may develop patches of odd coloured fur.

That looks like what Karma describes to me.
