Hi natnat899,
He is getting back to his mischievous self. I put him in the middle of the kitchen last week and usually he just sits there, maybe hop a few times, gently bump into something, become scared and not move at all. This time I put him down and he zipped around the kitchen, albeit he is still cautious, but when I tried to put him back in his cage, he loudly shrugged me off and took off for the living room and zipped around into the dining room, the hall, the bathroom. I was so excited for him!!! This morning he had his drops and his eye followed me when I brought up the dropper. So I know he can see. The cataract is not covering his entire eye anymore and is much much more translucent. He turns his face to me when I talk to him. He doesn't fall off his planks in his cage. When I gave him and the female a piece of apple. I gave hers on the other side of the cage. I though he didn't notice that she didn't eat her apple and he came all the way over and got that little treat. Before he didn't interact at all and just slept all the time, now he is up early, he watches whats going on in the house, and is more loving and interactive. We call him "Lovers Mouse" because he really enjoys snuggles, massages, itches, and being kissed up. He's sort of like a dog. LOL! He demands his love. When he couldn't see he was scared and didn't want to be touched.
I agree that the moderators were concerned about the drops not being tested on Chinchillas but I can't find a company that cares enough to run a medical trial on chinchillas. So I was willing to take a chance with mine and its paying off. He's getting his black eyes back instead of the white cataract completely covering his eyes and he seems so much happier. Couldn't be more pleased with his progress. The female Bebzee hasn't had any tooth problems since December so when we take her back in we will bring him and his drops and see what the vet says.

What a great idea Anita!!! I will definitely order some Bilberry leaf today. I was looking for something natural to help him maintain and strengthen his eyesight but I wasn't sure what he could have and could not have.
Hi Molettueuk, I didn't know anyone even commented on my last post. I didn't receive any updates to my email. Okay. That sounds good. Thank you.

I just ordered a box of organic Bilberry tea with just bilberry leaves in it. I will give him a pinch of tea a couple times a week... Maybe three times a week to strengthen his eyes. I think that was a great idea from Anita. Thank you beauty! :-)

Molettuek GM. You were mentioning foraging food before. I wasn't sure where to get some but those links help greatly I will look over them. I love this one that explains what chins can take. www.tjschinchillasupplies.com/chinchillaherbinformation.html He loves fresh dandilion greens I will definitely add more of whats listed in the links to his diet. Great information Thank YOU!

I would like to eventually wean him down to minimal on the eye drops and maintain his eyesight by herbs and diet. I feel like a chemist- a drop of this, a pinch of that . Chins are tiny so they really don't need much at all since herbs are medicinal and can negatively interact with each other. But I think a dash of this, and a sprinkle of that, may mimic more of a "wild diet" for him and thats what both chins need. Thanks everyone so much for the new wave of information. I want to find him some organic branches to chew on.

I have saved the chinchilla link - havnt come across it before, even though I have been on that website! It's very helpful. www.chinchillas2shop.co.ukChinchilla2shop sell organic wood, also have a look in the food/treat section, they sell a great range of hays and treats (most have a description to tell you the health benefits) - my chinchillas love the Oxbow Timothy Hay

Your Degu is ADORABLE!!! Their soft brown eyes get me. I was showing my mom Degu babies on the internet and she fell in love too. Actually she squealed and grabbed my laptop to see them. We didnt' know about Degu's until after we had very demanding Chins. LOL!
I am out in Texas you would think there would be wild bilberry out here. I'm going to do some more investigating and see if I can find a local source. Chins love to chew... As you would be able to tell by the notches taken out of the baseboards in my home.

www.chinchillas2shop.co.uk I think they only ship within the UK and surrounding areas. I had my shopping bag filled but they said shipping to the USA would be $500. I guess they really don't want to ship overseas. LOL! But they have excellent products on their website. They even have Hazel sticks from Poland. I hate that everything here in the states is GMO. We feed the chins Oxbow pellets and Oat hay which they absolutely love and throw all over their cage. It always looks like they had a party the night before. In the morning you see two passed out chins on their backs, in their mouse bed, and grass tossed all over the place.

chins-n-hedgies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20384Chins 'n' hedgies is an American based forum - this was the first one I actually found, so both my chinchillas are on oxbow chinchilla deluxe as well. They are happy with the feed so I would be reluctant to change it, even though it is very costly! The link takes you to a range of recommended American shops, I'm sure in one of them you will find what you are looking for

Hi Natnat899, That's the "Super Mall" of Chinchilla shopping!! Thank YOU! I will check out those links today. The chins decided to be nocturnal today no movement from the cage. They sleep later since I put a "black out" sheet over their cage. Not the whole cage just the 3 sides and they have a fan that blows gently into their cage. So Spoiled.... Now they don't roll out of bed until 9pm sometimes later and they are up all night long.

Haha, much better than the $500 before! The site has loads of wood on there so you can make your own chew toys you could even add the woodern parts with bits on this site to add a bit of variation and colour: www.chinchillacity.com/chinchilla_toy_parts.html

I love ordering stuff from the UK and a lot of times they have great shipping prices. I think that store doesn't want to deal with pkgs going to the US and becoming lost. Shipping overseas is a hassle. Whats nice about rhondaschins is that her wood is organic. I canceled the pear wood because I remembered they didn't like pear, and she is sending me Aussie Willow. Thanks again Moletteuk and natnat899! The chins thank you too.
