Custom viv sounds great I'd never heard of that company, I'd love to see pics when you get it. The miscanthus sounds interesting, I think degus would enjoy it in some parts of their setup, but I don't think it would be much good for absorbing urine. You might want to think about a degu safe, cat free room or place or playpen where the degus could free range, it's great fun for them and a good way for you to interact more fully with them.

I'm looking forward to it, he makes some great stuff and is local, so no shipping worries! Yes, I wouldn't want to use it as a complete substrate, but I'm sure they'll have tonnes of fun with some little handfuls of it! Oh yes, the living room is actually safe for small animals to roam in, I set it up like that when I had a Bearded Dragon who loved roaming around all day! Cats get booted outside and all doors shut! Of course, chewproofing will be sorted out, but I wwouldn'tt let them out unsupervized anyway!

Aurgh, they have the cutest pair of Goo's in my local P@H, one Agouti and one Champagne Agouti, really friendly and well bonded, but I'm not getting the money for the viv until the 26th so they'll probably be gone by then ;__; I just gotta cross my fingers I guess!
