After a recent introduction to Stu, Mater has a large bite to the side of his face. It stopped bleeding after a few minutes, but I'm not sure if I should remove their sand bath. Could it cause infection if I leave it in? Had minor injuries to all four boys lately but this is clearly one of the worst and I'm concerned about sand getting into the wound.

I would always recommend to remove the sand bath if there are (open) wounds. The degus can live without it for a couple of days. The problem with degus is that their skin heals (closes) pretty fast but under the skin there are be bacteria which can lead to abscesses.

Thanks. Will take it out for a couple of days and see how it looks.
