I heard that Degus liked to hide. I put a cardboard box in their cage with a door cut out of it. The sometime go in to it but find more fun in flipping it over. The only time they really stay in the box is when they are tormenting the cat. They really like to play hide and seek. I want to put some other toys in there but I have no ideas...any suggestions? I heard that they liked to climb and to put sticks in the cage. Won't the sticks break? And won't they chew on them? Another game my degus like to play is tipping over their food dish. At first they left it alone but as they got more used to their new home they have become more daring. My one degus dragged the dish (full of food) over to the other side of the cage and tipped it over, then picked through the food it liked. They also like to climb on the bars, they climb to the very top and then drop down....its quite entertaining to watch. ;D

Hi tmcammond.
I make frequent visits to pet shops in the search of ways to keep my degu clan busy, try anything made of wood. Their newest addition was a wooden hanging toy designed for parrots, addapted to be a shelf to sit on. They enjoy gnawing at the rope parts!
Another good game is putting a food treat they like into an empty egg box, 6 spaces is big enough, then shread some tissue and stuff this around the spaces, and close the lid. It takes them an age to get to the treats!!
Good luck
