Looking for more information on chinchilla food recommendations- if I wanted to try to move towards a more natural diet, as is recommeneded for the degus, what should I use? It seems like all the commercial diets for degus and chinchillas are vastly different? This would seem to indicate they cant live on the same diet so what are the needs for a natural chinchilla diet?

Hi, as the majority of us don't know much about chins, we can't really comment on what would be the best way to go with natural nutrition. However, I did some searching for chin forums with discussion on natural diets and came across this: www.chinformative.com/topic/2888-murx-pickwick/It sounds like searching through the diet sub-board could bring up some interesting information for you to look through, and perhaps davx could help to point you in the right direction for other sources?

Thanks for the info guys! When it comes to animals there are just so many opinions..its hard to decide what to believe. I really trust this forum for my degu information and was hoping to find good chinchilla info here also. I feed Oxbow right now and in general I like the company but I was hoping to go to the 50% natural diet like my degus are on. Well, off to more research

Hello, we have translated a small part of our chinchilla forum. You can find it here: www.degupedia.de/board/viewforum.php?f=54There is also a short introduction here: www.degupedia.de/board/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=4111Actually there isn't much information there because this also depends on the demand and on your questions. If you have any questions feel free to ask here, to write me a pm or for urgent issues to write me an e-mail to info@octodons.ch . Feel free to let us know your questions. It should be possible to switch the diet like you are used to do with the degus. In addition I wrote an article about our experiences and all the worries we had to fight some years ago, when the first chinchilla owners decided to switch to a natural diet without pellets. By the way Murx Pickwick is a fellow of our chinchilla forum. If you want a translation of a specific thread, let me know. I'll do my best to translate the main topics then.
