Depends what sort of cage it is. I inherited 3 cages connected together, 2 of them the dreaded thickets cage. Basically a hole was cut in the top of the base cage and the bottom was taken of the top one. A new base was made out of wood with a hole in it, and wooden sides to keep some of the substrate in. The cages are joined by cable ties. If you look at the show us your cages thread I'm sure there are several in there made like that, although the whole thread will leave you drooling.........

There's a guy called John Hopewell who makes degu cages amongst other things. On of the accessories that he makes is steel pop holes. It's basically a piece of metal with edges to attach to the bars with a hole in it, then another piece of metal without a hole that slides in over the top. It means you can cut a ole in your cage which you can easily and neatly close again, especially if you end up with separate cages again in the future. It also means you don't end up with sticky sharp bits that your degus might hurt their little tootsies on! Here's a link to his page. www.johnhopewell.co.uk/default.asp?template=productdetail.page.xml&productid=129Also, they are really cheap to buy so not a massive mod. I bought a couple years ago thinking I might need them someday, and just fitted mine a few weeks ago. They are fab, although need a good wipe every now again cos if they get covered in wee they stick badly. If you are connecting two fully mesh cages together, you'll want to put one in each cage then position the cages with them next to each other. We put a bottomless cage on top of a full mesh cage so we only needed one.

i have a problem, the cage i have has a lip around the base that sticks out and the other cage is the same so it means i can't just add the hole as there would be a gape in the middle (i'm rubbish at explaining sorry)i can only think of connecting a tube from each hole but i can't find what tube to use with 3" diameter and how to connect it sorry i hope you get what i'm talking about haha.

I think I'd make a short tube out of wire mesh and then wire it on, sort of in a sewing style, with some bare wire.
