WOW!! I've had a look at the two sites, and I have to say, I'm impressed with what I saw on each of them!! They look like good sources. Their not cheap, but they are good!

Come spring you can grow a lot of your own, too I'm from Minnesota and herbs grow wonderfully here, even in pots. If you don't have a yard or porch, you can use a windowsill. Windowsill herb gardens can be started in the winter even. Also, where in Wisconsin are you? Are you near a large city? I'm in Minneapolis, and I found lots of great herbs at my local co-op. Madison, Milwaukee, or Eau Claire would have similar natural foods co-ops where you can buy fresh herbs and veggie to dry them yourself. Farmers markets would have them in the spring and summer. I hung mine over a heat vent in the bathroom. I also found dried lemongrass and rosemary in bulk there. Just a few suggestions, incase you want to explore options outside of online ordering

I know it's not herbs, but I found this at Petsmart yesterday and thought it might be useful for some folks - www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11208813&f=PAD/psNotAvailInUS/NoIt's just dried carrots, peas, sweet potato, tomatoes, green beans, zucchini, bell peppers, and rose petals. The rose petals impressed me a lot - there are a lot of them in there, not just a token smattering like one would expect. It's a decent sized package and right now it's $2.69 with a PetPerks card, $3 regular price.

A brief overview of options in the US: www.degus-online.de/feed.htm (NB Brisky's pellets contain animal tallow so if it's degu-specific pellets you want to feed them then Sunseed vita degu is probably the best option)

All of the small animal food mixes I can find in my area contain sugar in some form or another. The one I found without molases had carab pods and apple juice. Looked up Gerty Guinea Pig and it has glucose syrup. Is that something I should be concerned with? I just feed them a handfull of bird feed because it was all I could find that was safe

Unless you want to take on a natural diet, which is great, but requires quite a bit of research and effort, you need to try to source a sugar free degu food. Perhaps you could get an independant pet shop to order in Versele Laga Degu Pro or Crispy in for you, or even Sunseed Degu, or perhaps you could order something online? If you need/ want to continue with the seeds, take a look at our nutrition charts to help you make good, informed choices deguworld.proboards.com/thread/15602/vegetable-seed-nut-nutrition-chartsBird seen isn't a viable option long term as it will be too high in carbohydrates, too low in calcium and lacking in variety of vitamins and minerals.

I checked all the stores in the area and nobody carries degu food, even the petshop who sells them doesnt sell the food. I found a bag of Gerty Guinea Pig and it turns out I was wrong about it containing sugar. It does have banana which concerns me a bit, but my little guys loved it!

The Gerty isn't a great feed for degus, but you will probably have to order the food online if you want some of the better feeds available for degus in the US.

The Gerty is grain and soy based, is low fibre, contains orange and banana, calcium content is too low and calcium to phosphorus ratio is worryingly low. I would recommend ordering something better online, but at the very least you need to add plant matter to the diet and supplement calcium.
