I think i now how this has happend, i had my chins in a tall cage with not much space too run around on the ground floor. I dident tend for them too be in it for long but they been in it for 3 months ,my male is lazy and with not that much ground floor space for him too run around in i think hes just been sat on a ledge not doing much and just pissing like i said before. I have moved him into a old cage that has alot more floor space but is not as tall and taking him too vet too make sure its not anything else also i noticed too day his back legs are abit red raw from it must be rubing his skin away and he was standing on a ledge leaning over too drink cos it must hurt too stand on his back legs i feel awful i should never of had them in the cage they where in for so long

Hello, I'm from degu part of this forum, so can't help with your chin, but I wonder if you could turn your tall cage on it's side to give them more running space. Degu moderator Amie, did it with her cage and I copy it with my cage, adjusting the shelves etc. and it works really well. Just a thought. Or possibly attaching your tall cage to your other cage. Hope your chin got better soon.

I hope changing the cage helps him, but I think you are right to still take him to the vet, especially with the skin and the urine issue together. Obviously some animals are more active than others, but inactivity in itself could also be a sign something is wrong, even if it turns out he's just bored there are lots of things you can do about this, like changing the cage around, adding new toys, making him forage for food and so on. Does he get much free time out of the cage? It really helps in encouraging them to get some good exercise and also allows you to get down on the floor with them and interact, and this then allows you to spot any potential problems nice and early. Hope he's OK
