Hello My names Sophie, Its my birthday soon and ive been asking for ages for pet degu's I think they are adorable! So finally my mum said yes and in the next 2 months il be getting 2 pet degu's! So i need to buy a cage, what is the best size cage for two degu's? and how many levels in the cage do I need? also do they need a sand bath? thankyou Sophie

Hi Sophie,
Yep goo's need a sand bath, I leave mine in my cage for half an hour every evening. If you leave it in any longer you tend to find they use it as a toilet! In terms of a cage the bigger the better! I currently have the pets at home cage which I'm planning to expand, but I wouldn't really recommend it. Make sure it doesn't have plastic bars or base because they will chew through it!

The cage should be at least 1 meter long, 50 cm wide and 1 meter tall.
I leave my sandbath in all day as if I take it out Steve would roll about in the wood shavings agitated so I leave it in for him. A couple of hours a night is fine though.

if money is tight the pets at homes cages are ok, and you can normally get them quite cheep of ebay, and if you want a bigger cage, i just put one on top of the other, removed the tray from the top one, and cut some of the mesh of the top of the bottom one and bottom of the top one and hey preso, a bigger cage at a fraction of the normal price x
