We have two female degus purchased from a pet store we have had them for around a month. When we first purchase them they were super calm friendly and easy to handle. Now all of a sudden they are biting and hard not "grooming" like we have read about intentionally biting and drawing blood. We are wondering if they are possibly both pregnant and this is what is causing their mood change. If so should we leave them be or continue handling them just maybe not as much. We do the squeaking and ouch thing when they bite but it doesn't seem to phase them they just bite again another time Any thoughts?

Wear gardening gloves, the big hefty ones, I had a problemed hamster once, I actually ended up hating it :$, I know now it wasn't the poor little things fault, only take them out with the gloves when needed, if they are pregnant they may not want to be touched.

Out of curiousity, how are you picking them up when you bring them out for a cuddle and visit? Degus really HATE being chased around the cage, so if you are doing any of that . . . it is likely contributing to the trouble. How long have you had them? Have you done any concentrated hand training with them yourselves?
