Degu and Chinchilla in the same cage?

Would it be possible?
We already have 2 degu's, they're amazing and we love them.
However, we'd also like a chinchilla. We can't really afford a new cage and all the stuff that go with it.

So, would it be possible to put them in the same cage?

Has anyone done this before?

Not really the best thing to do. Degus are diurnal, as in mostly awake during the day and mostly sleeping at night, where as Chins are nocturnal. They have different food requirements . . . Chins are allowed sugar and fruits, but degus are not. They sometimes get along, but it isn't something you can count on. It isn't something we recommend.

Have you thought of looking for a cage on ebay, pre-loved or freecycle, much cheaper than buying them new.

i would recommend the same as kovu07 and to check your local advertising newspaper, if you have one as they also advertise second hand which are cheaper
