I took on 3 'male degus' a month ago and yesterday one of these 'males' presented me with 9 little babies. Have checked the other 2 adults and they are def female too (Hopefully not pregnant but time will tell)
Anyway Mum seems content and has let me check babies with no worries and all seem lively and vocal. The nest isn't in a very good place (too high, although does go onto a ledge, but it is a narrow one) but Mum got upset when I moved it so I moved it back.
I am new to degus and def had no intention of breeding so just wanted to know if there is anything specific I need to do for Mum. Currently feeding her degu pellets and a treat a day, plenty of timonthy hay and water. When are babies likely to venture out of the nest ?
They are the cutest tiny little mites.

Thank you for reply.
I had never checked before which I should of done, but was letting them settle a bit. Have checked all 3 since and are all def girls. Hoping other 2 aren't pregnant and certainly they are not the size mum was in the last couple of weeks, but time will tell.
I ended up having to move nest this morning as one baby manged to get out and now we have had several wobbly babies exploring. All 9 are doing well and are moving around a lot and making noise. Mum is happy for me to touch them, although I keep this to a mimimal, infact she has become super friendly since the birth.
Have had some offers of homes, although I am waiting to say yeh or nay at moment as it is early days and will keep a couple I think. Want good caring homes for them rather than money. Wish I could keep them all, but 12 is a bit too much.

Sorry about the rather shocking surprise, but congratulations on the birth of 9 healthy babies! They are so adorable and a lot of fun.
