after seeing the pic of the over weight degu and looking at my charlie i thought mmmmm she looks a little fat to me it dont help and she tends to sit all puffed up sometimes but i weighed her and she sat very happy for ages in my kitchen scales and shes 220g i think thats normal isnt it when looking on degutopia it may be she looks so big with my tiney little lola in their shes 7 weeks now but how much food is fine for them as when i clean out i put oats around the cage on platforms in different areas then they have a food bowl i fill and it normaly needs re filling every 2/3 days i also give fresh food once a week as well as hay in the cage which they seem to like to hide in more than eat lol

220g is absolutely fine. Anything between about 200-250g is pretty much perfect.
I can imagine she does look massive next to little Lola though, bless!

Sam is a fatty... he weighs just under 300g so dont worry about Charlie
Thing is Sam is overweight cause he's lazy, and mostly muscle. its scarey really.

Don't worry about 220g! My older boys who aren't big or fat in the slightest are about 240g. If the picture you saw was of the female degu I'm rehoming.... I haven't weighed her yet, but I would put good money on her weighing 350g+
Infact, I might go and weigh her now. I've been avoiding it because she's a bit of a moody cow, lol.

She's 360g!!!! Her sister is about 270g which isn't too bad. I'm giving her treats very rarely and I'm giving them Stefan and Damon's wheel for half the day and then they have it back for the other half. The girls broke their own wheel because it wasn't strong enough for them. They need their own silent spinner as they're pretty strong unlike some of cheaper plastic ones. I think they've gained a lot of weight because their previous owner bought them some treat forage food (and I'm not sure exactly what it is, but I will find a link for it) like the woodlands herbal delight, but the 'salad' one. It has a really strong.... and nice smell to it. It looks like leaves, grass and flowers (maybe dandelions?.... something yellow anyway, lol). They're owner had trouble getting them back on to degu nuggets after feeding them this and I think, although I'm not sure, they might have been fed this as main meal quite often. I'll have to ask them to be sure, but this could be the reason she's so fat as she doesn't seem to actually eat that much now.
