One of the pups got bitten on his foot and one of his nails is hanging, as in when he sat on my arm his nail was leaning in the wrong direction.
Apart from bathing the injury in saline solution is their anything else I should do? Should I remove the nail or let it heal/ drop off naturally?

Ok, Thank you very much for the advice guys. There was quit a bit of blood and it started bleeding a little bit when I cleaned it. I think the little boy knew we were trying to help because he sat still and let us dab his foot with a cotton bud.

Quick update on the little guy. He's lost the nail now and yesterday his whole foot looked a swollen and he was reluctant to put weight on it, but he was still running around the cage with his brother. Today I did my daily check up on him. His toe still looks swollen but the rest of his foot has come down. The wound looks red and fleshy with a white dot in the center (I'm no expert on Degu anatomy but I think that's his bone or just the place were the nail comes from). At least the wound looks clean and I'm positive he'll make a full recovery Don't know if he'll ever forgive Leo for bitting his toe though.

Keeping my eye on the little guys toe and yesterday it didn't look too good in my opinion. This might be one of those 'well duh!' type questions; but does this wound look infected? Uploaded with ImageShack.usIf it is infected is there a way I can treat it at home or do I need to take him to the vets?

I've booked the little guy in to see the vet this afternoon and ten to three. I asked whether the vet had much experience with Degu's and they informed me she wasn't very experienced with them. Then I explained that it was a swollen toe and the vet said they would be happy to have look at it. Because surely a swollen toe, even on a Degu; shouldn't be too different from any other animal. I wonder how she’s going to make him sit still long enough to take a good and proper look.
I'm a bit nervous, I've never taken any of my pets to the vet before, I've been quiet fortunate.

I took his brother with him so that he would have some degu company, but he was much braver then his brother. The vet had a look at him through the bars of the carrier and then I took the little boy out in the grass nest and she said she got a good look. She said it did look infected and has given me some Baytril and a syringe; I've got to give him 0.2mils a day for seven days.
Any tips for giving medicine to little degu's? I was going to soak the dosage of medicine in some porridge oats, because he likes portage oats. And if that doesn't go down perhaps I could mix a little bit of peanut butter in with that?
