Hello fellow degus lovers
My name simon and im from essex in England.
i have 5 degu boys which are now 4 months old.
there names are
Gus Gus (because his the biggest)
Titch (Because his the smallest)
Lou Lou (Because he is nuts and got a habit of crewing the bars but twisting his whole body clockwise) will post a video
Dyson (Because when ever i get the vacuum out he runs up and down the cage and follows the vacuum)
Sergei (Because saying sergei was easier than Aleksandr Orlov lol)
I brought degus as after having loads of gerbils and hamsters i wanted a pet that was different from the norm as a lot of people do not know what a degu is let alone heard of one.
Anyhow ive had them a few months and i could not imagine my apartment with out them all there squeaks and noises that they make.
Also getting used to each other and what they like and dont like as each one is different as soon as you go near the cage gus gus will be there where the door is waiting to get out.
i will post some photos up soon
Anyway looking forward to getting to know fellow degu lovers
Take care
Simon

Welcome to the site! Glad you're enjoying your degus! As a note make sure you sex your degus yourself as both male and female genitalia "stick out," which is the urethral cone.
But anyway, I hope to see pictures of your gang soon! ;D

Hi
Degus have been checked and i defo have 5 boys the bloke that i got them from is a degu breader and has his own shop. I searched a few pet shops and found his degus to be in lot better condition than others. This mans knowledge is amazing on he knows so much. There was a litter of 8 and 5 of them were boys hence the 5 i have got .

Good to hear. Regular petshops are notorious for sexing them wrong. Too many members here have had accidental litters. Even though I got mine from someone who knew her stuff I still re-sexed them just for my own peace of mind.

And the breeder I got my four "boys" from knew his stuff too, it's always a good idea to confirm it yourself once they're a little older and the gap (if there is one) is more visible.

Hi, where in Essex are you and can you let me know where the breeder is please. My daughter wants degus and I would rather not get them from Pets at home. We have always got her rats from breeders apart from a few we 'rescued' from pet shops. Many thanks

A female should have no gap or almost no gap between the urethral cone and the anus and a male will have a gap. For my two the gap is about ... A centimetre?
I love this video, it shows pictures for people who're still a bit unsure:
