Hai! Our names are Lorena and Moki (the degu ). We are new on this forum so we thought we might as well say hello. We are from Croatia and we have been best friends for 3 years now. The main reason I decided to find a forum for degu lovers is because my little Moki weights 200 grams, and I have read somewhere that "ideal" / normal weight is around 230-250 grams. I wanted to ask if I should be concerned about it. He is alone in his cage and he is driving his wheel a lot. That was my first thought on why he is skinnier. He was always like this. I saw his family at my friends place, and they all weight more. Even his mum is a "fattie". I give him the same food my friend feed his degus. Moki LOVES to eat and I don't think he has any health problems,so I don't know what is the issue. We would appreciate your help very much! These are our random pictures if someone is interested in how Moki looked/looks like: s1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc465/MokiandEnaCheers! ;D

Hey, Welcome to the forum You seem to love him very much and judging by the pictures, he adores you too! He's very cute! I've had a look through the pictures and in some of them he looks a little underweight, but they could have been taken when he was younger or it could be the angle the photo was taken as in the others, he looks fine. I'd have no idea about why he might be underweight (if he is) without knowing his diet, but I think he'd thrive with a companion of his own 'species' (as much as it's obvious that he loves you!). I apologise if you already know this or he used to have a friend that passed away. Degus are really social ard they shouldn't really be kept alone. Have you thought about getting him a friend?

Hello! Thanx for your reply! Yup,I love Moki veeeeryyy much! We are together a lot,hes sleeping/staying in my hoodie when I am at home,he loves it. He has his own blanket and covers himself with it too,I find it funny. He's like a mini human. I know they are very social and I actually got his brother in the cage with him,but they kept fighting,so I decided to separate them. I guess Moki was protecting his territory, since he got there first? :/

Hello Enadriel, and welcome to the forum!!
At 200 grams, he is still within an acceptable weight range, but you don't want to see him go below 175 or 150 at the lowest. Do you ever give him peanuts, or sunflower seeds? Maybe try some of those for a little while each day, say 4-6 sunflower seeds, one peanut in tiny bits once a week, or spread over a week, and watch his weight to see if it starts to go up again. You might want to weigh him every day or two for a while so you can see what is going on. I hope he will gain again for you!
