Hi does anyone know anything abotu preparing wood for Degus? I have an untended garden apple tree up the road from me and a hazelnut tree in my front yard.
I'd love to put some interesting branches in my goos cage but should I wash/sand/take bark off or anything before i put it in?
Cheers Vx

Wipe down the bark, place it under the grill for a while to kill any pests or nasty things.

I have read that they should be baked. When I cut chunks off my hazelnut tree I give it a quick steam clean to get rid of the bird poo and any greenfly and then put it in the oven while the oven it cooling after I cooked the Sunday roast. Don't take the bark off the wood, my goos love doing it themselves. I think the reason for baking the wood is to kill off any bugs living in the wood. Hope this helps
