So, my boys came home today. I am totally besotted with them / addicted to watching/listening to them already.
I have four little boys (from fuzzymum1's latest litter (and last, lol!)), they're about 7 and a half weeks old, and yeah... came home today. I can't tell them apart yet, but, I'm already starting to spot a couple of patterns in personality... I think... They could well be different degus each time, but, I -think- I'm spotting patterns.
For example, I got them home, put the carrier open in the cage, and within a few minutes one had already ventured out to have a look... less then five minutes on and he'd already checked out the top two levels of the cage (and it wasn't much longer till he found the bottom two and the sand bath!) My housemate wants to call him "Commando" but I admit, I'm not convinced lol. (He is, for now, "Mr-Bold".
Meanwhile, I moved the other three from the carrier into a little 'cube' type hammock I made (just so I didn't have to leave the carrier in there), and then left them too it. Sitting back to watch. Mr-Bold popped up after a while, and having sussed out where the other three were climbed into the hammock to say hello... for all of a second... before he was out exploring again. After that the other three came out one by one to explore (within maybe 15-20 mins of getting home).
Spent the afternoon peeking in on them when I was in the room and the pattern seems to be one very bold one (racing around, completely indifferent to me being in the room / moving around), who I'm assuming is perhaps the original Mr-Bold (but like I said... I can't see anything to tell them apart yet, so it could be a different one each time, perhaps); a pair who are always together -- if one goes for a dust bath, the other goes for a dust bath... if one eats, the other eats... etc. (The names "Kiro" and "Shin" are stuck in my head for these two, though again, we shall see)... and the fourth who seems a bit more, cautious.
Having left them for four hours while I went to work, I've come back to find them (I assume), all curled up at the bottom of a cork tube I have at a 45 degree angle in the cage (for them to climb from the first to second levels). I could see a sleepy little face looking out at me, and at least one tail. I can now hear a lot of (adorable!) little chirruping type noises.
Very cute.
I will get pictures for you all soon. =D (And Jordan, I'll get you pictures of the "furnished" cage at the same time!)
Edit: A couple of pics I grabbed on my phone earlier while they were exploring and ignoring me.
