OMG, OMG........im so very excited ;D got up this morning and went to check on the degus as i always do and strangely..willow didnt scarper away from me, instead she sat in her nest! i knew by this that she must of had her babies so taking a further inspection, she did her normal and ran behind her wheel for safety when i saw the tinyest little brown thing bobbing about...lol i left her until the children got up (30mins) and went to have another look and it looked as though she was eating something so i presumed that she still was giving birth and was eating the placenta or cleaning a baby, so again i left her.. an hour passed and ive just gone to have another check and saw that one of the babies was climbing on top of her head so im guessing/ hoping that they should all be healthy?! ive just given her and chocs a monkey nut each..........awwwwwwww bless i couldnt tell you how many she has had yet as i havent manged to get a proper look but there is atleast 2! OMG, im just toooooo excited, im still shaking...lol chocs however is pretty sad, he keeps crying out as he dont like being on his own. he is in the top half of the cage. i feel soooooooo sorry for him willow is so far doing a great job! ;D i shall update you all later when i (hopefully) do a head count

aww, thank you kins! they are so small and sooo pretty...lol there little scrunched up faces are so adorable, i really didnt expect them to be THAT small...lol it looks like there is 5 babies possibly 6? theyre tails look like tiny little worms all wriggling around...lol i feel so proud to be a degu nanny ;D i will try and get some photos ASAP but im having a huge problem with my internet connection, we are only have a temporary connection through vodafone and through a sim card and everything is so slow, i tried posting some pictures of willows bump but photobucket cant upload due to the connection speed being almost non existent i will try again but dont think it will be possible, i was thinking that maybe i could upload the pictures to email and then try somehow to get them here but i may face the same problems uploading to email??? fingers crossed the man comes to sort my internet out today but somehow i doubt that!! i do have a small question though in regards to handling the babies... ive read numerous times that handling babies is fine however.. willow still doesnt trust me so... do you think it would be ok for me to handle them, or not??? im desperate to have a better look at them, basically to make sure they are all ok and check what sexes they are. what do you think? not necessarily today but maybe tonight or tomorrow, or do you think it might be too risky???

Awwwww, congratulations - it's so exciting having babies I would think that she would be OK with you handling them briefly - when Dorothy had her first litter she was still quite nervous of me but still let me handle them regularly. Now she trusts me much more but doesn't behave any differently towards me when I touch them. I would play it by ear - distract her with a sunflower seed or something and then reach into the nest and see how she reacts. Handling them regularly makes them a lot more tame as adults. If you want to email me some pictures I'm happy to put them on my photobucket and share them here for you. PM me if you do and I'll send you my email address.

thank you so much fuzzymum for your kind offer... i shall try and upload some pictures to my email, if it works and you still dont mind, i shall PM you for your email addy... fingers crossed it works!!! arnt they just so sweet...lol im buzzing today, i keep popping in the room to check her, ive left the TV low so that the noises may settle her otherwise when i walk into the room its more frighting...lol hubby thinks im nuts...lol ive done a head count and im pretty confident that she has 6... i only wanted 3...lololol they are so much smaller than i imagined, but they all look ok, they have their eyes open and i see no problems with them so far! im really hoping that i can get a better look at them later but im so scared i will stress her out too much, i have taken a little bloody tissue out earlier that was laying on the entrance of her nest but other than that i havent gone near. chocs seems so sad, he keeps making sounds that ive never heard a degu make before.. ive just given him a couple of treats but it breaks my heart to see him like this.. 4 days will seem like a lifetime!!! do you think i can just put chocs straight back with willow and the babies after the 4 days or do you think id need to go through the re-introducing stages again??? anyway, thanks again hugely... i shall try them email pics now and let you know xx

actually...im not 100% sure that its 5 or 6 babies... at first and im sure that i saw 6 but we have just had a hold of one and it looks like there is only 5! OMG they are sooooooooo small and already so fast...lol @fuzzymum.. thankyou ever so much for your kind offer earlier to do the photobucket work but unfortunately hotmail wont even upload my photos and gmail wont even let me sign in i shall try again tomorrow but i hold not much hope! vodafone have told me that they have set up my phone lines and now i have to wait for activation..im so angry ATM with vodafone as we have waited far too long, but thank you again for the kind offer of help!!! the babies, like i said are so small, i showed the photos of you babies (fuzzymum) to my hubby and he said ours must be premature but...surely if they were they wouldnt have their eyes open or be so ACTIVE...lol maybe i think its because you had a smaller birth than willow??? im not sure if that makes a difference, all i can say is that they seem to be ok, willow is stil a bit skittish of me but the way im thinking is that she either gets used to me or not...maybe this is the best way to gather confidence, one thing for sure is that im NOT going to hurt any of her beautiful babies so maybe she will eventually learn to trust me!!! anyway, just wanted to thank you, and hopefully very soon i shall be able to post some pics, i am so very proud and still every so excited about my new borns...im so glad im keeping them all...they shall be and already are so loved...omg ;D

Yay! Babies!! bless her willow nice big litter for the first time. So so happy for you nuttz ;D
Now, as far as I know you shouldn't have to do reintroductions with chocs. When you put him back in with willow just keep an eye on them for the first couple hours to make sure all goes well. But I'm sure chocs will go straight into dad mode!

Apologies for not replying sooner but I've been ill then away house-sitting for a friend who had to go away overnight to a funeral.
When I put Norman back in with Nancy after she birthed they'd been apart for about three weeks and he went back in no problems so I would think a few days would be fine - I'd left him with Dorothy as she was likely already pregnant again (and was it turns out) but I separated the other girls until I was sure.

aww, thank you everyone.. im still excited and feel almost like i birthed those babies, they are so lovely, im totally smitten...lol we have definitely 6 babies, 3 girls and 3 boys...lol yesterday (at only 2 days old) i found one chomping on a bit of left over monkey nut that mummy hadnt quite finished...lol another was eating a bit of hay, sooooooooo sweet!!! i have a tiny cuddle everyday but literally only for a matter of seconds, mum doesnt like me going near but hey, she never did like me anyway...lol mum is eating like a HORSE!!! she is a right little piggy ;D but she is doing a fab job taking care of MY babies...lol i think we plan to put a baby boy in with stumpy (the lonely goo) 2 boys in with dad and 3 girls in with mum.. hubby needs to get his finger out and start building me that cage, i think i may need a bigger one for the girls as there will be 4 scrunchy goos living together... i just hope we dont encounter any fights, i couldnt handle anything like what happened to choc and chips which, is the reason why we are in this situation now (planned, but not ideal!). chocs is feeling the brunt of it all... he really isnt liking the solitary confinement bless him!!! but...................................................................................5 days and he can go back, right??? if thats the case, wednesday is the big day, i cant wait to see what he makes of the babies, or the babies reaction to him coming to think of it...lol can someone clarify if 5 days is safe, please!? im sure ive read trillions of times but just want to be 100% sure im still totally frustrated that we have no proper internet sooooo no photos "sorry" but when i get it back on (should be this week sometime) i promise to send tons... i have some really great photos, the babies are just so tiny.. not as fluffy as yours fuzzymum??? dont know why??? this is the reason why hubby thought ours was prem but im more inclined to think its because its a bigger litter... anyway, they are just great, all moving, well actually running around like little nutters...lol when i pick them up they are just so............well........warm...lol honestly, they feel so warm and snuggly, even their feet...lol ok..enough of me, you can see im still just as excited as friday, im driving everybody bonkers here with my baby degu talk...lol ;D thanks again xxx

i have some really great photos, the babies are just so tiny.. not as fluffy as yours fuzzymum??? dont know why??? this is the reason why hubby thought ours was prem but im more inclined to think its because its a bigger litter... Mine were shiny for the first few days but they very quickly go fluffy. This is what all of mine have looked like as newborns I would say if they have their eyes open and are nibbling on food they almost certainly aren't premature.
