Hey everyone! This post is aimed at owners who wish to create a more natural setup within their enclosure. Creating a natural setup inside your enclosure will both help to stimulate your degus and looks excellent! Click read more after the break to see what I created last summer...
I have made a post on natural set ups inside the degu enclosure guys It uses some pictures from my old blog but I have added a better write up with some tips and added info
This is it! The end of our journey! Phase 5 includes putting the glass into the runners and adding all your bedding furnishings. After the break you will read about how I slotted in my glass runners, where I stored my degus during the build and some general information about the job.
Hey guys, I have completed another post. I have also linked all the posts together in the "large enlcosure project" , so there is now a complete guide to building a large degu enclosure.
Fantastic work once again. I kept coming back to your and reading it over for tips and ideas - I like the balcony bit. I am trying to make the top of mine so it opens up and creates the same sort of effect.
Hello one and all! Today I wanted to share with you some of the foods that make up my degus diet. It is important to note that all owners feed their degus differently; this is my way and will therefore not work for everyone. I am currently in the process of changing some aspects of my degus diet. When this process is complete you can expect to see the changes I have made in a new post. Click to read on past the break!
Nom nom nom...
Thanks MHB, im glad you like it, and thank you for your support! You are what make the project worth it!
Im pleased to add that there is a new post on the site, sorry its been a while I have been a little snowed under recently.
Hello everyone! I am pleased to announce that today I will be sharing some information on degu sexing and baby care. This information can be difficult to find as it is not a well covered topic. I can only thank my friend Ady for this - it was Ady who wrote the article and has allowed me to host it here on Degu Chronicles. Click to read after the break...
Hello everyone, its time for part 2 of the degu products series. In this post we are going to focus on some of the items you can purchase in Pets at Home that are suitable for your degus and are located in the reptiles section. Click to read more!
Hello everyone, a video here for you this time - 2 posts in one day!
I have recently made a slight change to the bottom level of my enclosure. I have added about 35cm of substrate to the level. Past the break you will find further information and pictures. Click for more...
Hello everyone, time for round 2! In todays article I will further expand on my degus diet. I am now at a stage where I feed a completely natural diet to my degus, however in this article I will demonstrate my 50/50 natural mix.
Im glad to hear you like it Moletteuk! Thanks for the support
I have had so many more hits recently compared to normal (even though I have been able to post less often). It seems people are begining to discover my site. I am also the 4th and 5th result on google for "degu blog" which shows my google ranking has shot up and its all thanks to you guys!
I just wanted to say a huge thanks to everyone who reads my blog, you guys make it worth it! Theres about 100 of you a day now so its a very exciting time, I will press on as much as possible! Thanks again for all the support!
I just wanted to keep you all updated as to my whereabouts recently. I have been working on an informational video about degu diets; specifically my own degus. This video is taking longer to create than I had hoped. I have decided I am going to try and increase the quality of each of my articles, rarther than providing volume. When the diet video is complete, I will let you all know here.
In the spirit of improving quality, I have (once again!) changed the websites theme. I am really enjoying the latest layout/theme, its much closer to where I want the site to be. Some of the layout of my site has also changed, some information has moved to new pages. Over the last year I have began to build up a large amount of information, I have now taken the time to "tag" each of my articles. You can now use the "blog side bar" to search for posts by subject. Hopefully a nice quality of life improvement.
Please check the renewed site and stay tuned for new posts that will be coming soon!
Hello everyone! I hope you are well! I know have briefly talked about beddings in the past, quite often within a post about degu enclosures. This time I wanted to offer some more detailed information on the subject. Before I begin, I also wanted to say a quick thank you to esteemed degu owner Nightwishraven999 - who helped me write this article.
In addition to uploading the substrate guide (above), I have updated the Degu Real Estate Page. Hopefully it will be a much better quality of life feature and will encourage more users to start submitting the enclosures. Rarther than emailing me the pictures and specifics of the enclosure, there is a really simple form to fill out on the Real Estate page. It takes about 5 minutes (or less) to fill out the form and the information is sent directly to me to look at.
I encourage everyone to check out the update and start taking part!
Today I spent about 2 hours doing a major overhaul on the degu's enclosure. I removed all the accessories and old bedding and hoovered out every nook and cranny. I disinfected all the toys, shelves, ledges and walls. I cleaned the glass front of the enclosure and hoovered all around the base. I am seriously beginning to consider getting a job in a zoo! Anyway, I refilled the enclosure with fresh bedding and re-arranged the toys. The good news is that its (raining!?) summer! So all the trees and plants are back in full leaf, this means I was able to take some foliage from the nearby trees to add to the degu's home.
I have recently been in touch (via email) with a kindly gentleman by the name of Thomas Cunningham. He got in touch with me after seeing the Degu Chronicle website and was inspired to forge ahead with a DIY enclosure. I am very pleased he did as he has done a very fantastic job, not only this but he has been organised enough to document the building process and allow me to share the results here with you!
Without further a due, please read on past the break to see this picture heavy post.
Regular readers will remember my previous post on cleaning wildwood (that can be found here); it is a question that is often asked but not something thats easy to find answers to. The video above provides advantages to cleaning wood by stripping the bark, as well as how to strip the bark.
January time I will be leaving rainy England and be heading off to sunny Australia! Unfortunately, its far too hot for degus down under so my brother will be taking ownership of the little critters. I will be gone for roughly six months. I wanted to begin a project that would allow me to keep you all updated while I have no degus, and so... I have begun designing a new enclosure! The enclosure itself will not be constructed for some time yet - hopefully within the next 2 years.
After the break I will begin the first 101; in each edition I will explain some of the features of the enclosure I am designing, offer some tips for the building stage and list the materials to be used. Please remember that this is an enclosure I am planning to build for myself and will therefore be more expensive than a regular build - please do not let the cost and detail of my project put you building a DIY enclosure.
Today, I want to make a post only vaguely related to degus. I have been somewhat absent recently from the blog. Hopefully you will notice there is a new enclosure and it's specifications on the Real Estate Project, apart from this I have not managed a great deal lately.
I do not like to share anything unless I am proud of it. It has to pass my inner critique first. I have been struggling lately with collecting decent footage and photos of my degus, my enclosure designs, etc... Suffice to say I am in a slump. I am hoping to return to normality soon but I will not be trying to force it, as I believe this is part of the problem. I do however have something to talk about today...
