wow, ive never thought of childrens sand, i wonder if it would be ok.. i know it has no toxins in, just wonder if it would be safe for degus??? i used to buy it from argos (many moons ago...lol my kids are far past playing in the sand stage, shame, i used to love it ;D) it used to cost about a fiver for a huge bag... i wonder if anyone can confirm if this type of sand would be safe??? its pretty fine and if i remember rightly, very similar!

My bag is slowly coming to an end, it will have lasted eight months. I have to say, however, that my girls' sandbath is outside the cage (where they have access twice a day), which means less sand disappearing. I top up when required.

I have a fine cat litter scoop and scoop through the sand regularly - the scoop is a good fit in the pets at home metal sand bath. I tend to scoop through a couple of times a week, topping up the sand if necessary then roughly every 4-6 weeks I replace it with fresh - I buy the bags of sand from P@H and I think I'm on my 3rd bag since I got the goos back in february and I have two sand baths - one for the boys and one for the girls. Another way to reduce sand use is to offer the bath for an hour or two a couple of times a week rather than leaving it in all the time.
