I'm thinking about building my own cage, but I have a question - in cages where there is glass rather than the metal mesh stuff, how do you usually get air in? Do you drill holes in the glass? When I went to look at degus at Pets at Home they were in a glass cage, don't think I saw any form of ventilation in that either :/ I'm sure I'm just missing something, though.

You will need wire mesh somewhere. Have a look at this site: octodondegus.weebly.com/ Most common, and probably easiest to do, is to have it at the top. If you have some at the side or the front, the advantage is that you can have some contact without having to open the glass door. On the other hand, if your goos get into chewing the wire mesh, it can become rather annoying.

usually you have either a mesh top to allow air in and out that way and sometimes vents on the sides which make the flow better.
