Nosey my female degu had a fall last night. Totally my fault too i feel so bad, i left the door open and she ran ontop of her cage. About 6ft. I didnt realise i left it open untill i heard her fall. She seemed ok and was running on the floor, i put her back in n she just looked shook up. Today she is aleart but not as mobile. She seems to have a problem with her right hand when eating. Its not as mobile as usuall but she is putting weight on it and has climbed a few times today. Im wondering if it could be a sprain? She isnt on her wheel at all apart from a few steps early on she took. Shes resting allot too. There is only 1 vet round here and have heard bad things about them. Just hoping someone has an idea what it is n its not that bad. Like i say shes putting her weight on it, climbing at times and cleaning herself but seems to be having a slightly hard time picking stuff up with that hand

Bit of an update. Shes been out her house allot more, few strides on the wheel and was using her hand to eat some hay. She was also usinv it to dig a bit and is now biting at her house lol. She is still keeping it lifted but i am thinkin now its maybe just been a strain and a touch of shock. All oppinions are welcome :-)

Shes been out a bit more on her wheel. Now at the top of the cage sleeping. Think she might still be shocked. Still worried about her :-(

Hope she's better soon! They can take a while to get over a scare but you're doing right by keeping an eye on her. Where are you based? Maybe someone on here can suggest a better vet nearby if you need one. :-)

She seems better. Just sleeping more really. She was running prety hard on the wheel before. But Nosey and her sister lashes are sleeping at the moment. Shes climbed right to the top of the cage no problem there. Really hope it is as you say just gonna take a bit time for her to get over the shock.

Glad she seems better. :-) Just make sure she seems alert and herself and hopefully shell be just fine. If you're unsure it's always worth asking a vet, im afraid I can't help you locate one but there is a sticky about vets who deal with goos. Little monkeys eh? You turn your back for two seconds and they get in all kinds of pickles!

Hello geordiedan1892! It does sound to me as though she has slightly pulled something, I wouldnt worry about it too much though, I'm 6'4'' and my degus have jumped from my shoulder to floor before and been absolutely fine! She more than likely just needs a short while to recouperate, which she will do by herself anyway. Keep us updated though!

Her hand seems fine now its just the fact she really isnt herself.. You see we have a wood floor so she hit it with a bang like. Just seems shes shook up, dsnt want to be petted or anything and she just seems sleepy. like you say she might just need a bit of time. So was that the way ur degus go one when they have a shock?

yeah, when my degus have jumped from my shoulders before they acted really scared for a little while, they're fine now though, they just wait untill I sit down before they do one lol. In fact the worst one for jumping off my shoulder (Edna) is now the most confident at coming out, she's very careful mind, and tends to dig her nails in if she feels a bit like she might fall.
I'm sure she'll come round very soon, degus don't stay shy for long!

Cheers phil well nosey sounds the same as edna. Shes the one that would come out the most out the two. But shes not coming anywhere near me atm lol. Thanks for the advice SMUX! Makes allot of sense.. Well she came down a few mins ago and had her 1st drink of the day, then started spinning the wheel with her hands "one of the many mental things she does" lol but she just zonked out there and shes out for the count. What you said about your degu is awful so glad hes ok tho but i know what u mean that sound gave me a shiver. So glad ur degu is ok tho! I didnt realise they were so tough. But as for nosey her hand seems fine now, shes coming round bit by bit. Think we'll see her better tomorrow fingers crossed :-) will keep yous posted tho and thanks again for everybodys help

You're welcome, glad we've put your mind at ease a little, I'm sure she'll be fine sooner rather than later. Degus have a strict diet, but other than that, they're sturdy little creatures lol.

Hello all. Well this morning she was curled up with her sister having a nap. But when i went to give her a treat she came straight to me! Something she wouldnt think of doing y-day. She went straight back onto the top shelf tho, n looks in n out of sleep. So plus points are the treat taking and the quickness she came to me. Negatives are she still laying low at times. But she does seem more alert. Suppose i gotta bare in mind its only been just over 24hrs since she fell.

Cheers well there has been massive progress. Y-day she just seemed to spring into life. I opened the cage door to give them nuggets and nosey jumped straight onto me! She also had big sprinting sessions on her wheel. I thought it best to keep them in the bedroom so i could keep an eye on her through the night, how wrong was i haha at about half 2 am she and her sister decided to team up and flip over there big wheel for fun and try and get it into the house. After putting the wheel back a few times nosey decided she wanted some attention so went back to her ways of days pre dating the fall and started biting the bars of her cage. So they went back in the living room at about 3am lol shes currently on her non flipped wheel with lashes so all is looking to be back to normal. Cheers for everyones advice and keeping me calm :-D
