I have changed the topic of this post as my situation has now become worse. Bobby and Taco, year long brothers are now in peperate cages, I sepreated them for a whole day and when I put them back together in a single cage, taco wasn't through the door more than a few seconds when they both got at each other very violently into the Death ball grip, lossing lot's of fur, luckily I had a towel ready in antisapation of a fight breaking out, they both got out alive without any blood loss, just a few scratches but It could have ended much worse. So now it's going backwards not forwards and I'm even thinking it may not be possible to put them back together. They have turned very aggressive towards each other and this hasn't changed for a few days now.
I was just putting in a toy to TAcos cage and he ran over very fast and bite me on the finger really hard. It's my first proper draw blood Degu bite and it hurt like hell. I cleaned it with some Vodka as it's all I had on hand. It's bumped up a little but the bleeding has stopped.
What Have I got myself into.

OOF!!! You might try that, changing location could break the association they seem to have . . . although if you are putting them into a play pen as part of the defined area, the play pen itself may be enough to still bring on a fight. It's worth a try though.

I am guessing you have checked but your lone boy is defiantly a boy yeah? Just my goo's act like that a lot but only generally when they can see other goo's as they have all grown up with the mixed scents and stuff but Arthur and Merlin are the two of mine that do it generally when they can see the girls - so just made me wonder...

yes I checked when I first got him, i'm confident when sexing Degus, and he's a boy without a doubt. There is rougly a little finger space between his genitals and anus, the gap is wide enough to confirm he's a boy.
thanks for your comment by the way, it may have been something I overlooked but it's not the case this time. I think they have had the house to themselves and just don't like the new scent they smell in the play area. I'm yet to try another area which I will do next.

hmmm, my first suggestion was that Victor would turn out to be a Victoria. the only other thing I can think of is that by there being a third goo the scent is enough to unbalance the hierarchy. Maybe it gave bobby a spurt of confidence to try to be dominant - almost like an 'i've got back up now to go for alpha position' or something like that. I wonder if it will all settle down once you get friends for Victor?

haha, what you just said made me laugh. Yeah maybe your right with the, Bobby thinking he can take the crown. He use to be the alpha male at one point early on but somehow lost his power, although he is still in charge of the wheel and if Taco slows him down, bobby won't let him on till he's finished, hehe, they both run together most of the time but you know how protective goos get over their toys.
I tried moving them to the corridor, now i'm pretty sure Victor has never been in here. but the same thing happened.
At the minute they're only getting around 10 minutes a day play time because that's how long they last before it get back to fighting like crazy goos.
I don't know if I should try letting them go longer at it to see if it's eventually resolved burt that risks someone getting hurt.
God Degutopia want to take down the description of degus being easy to keep haha.
I love them but sometimes they make me want to tear my hair out.
but I couldn't be with out them, they're my little boys.

on another note, I'm scared of getting two more male pups incase it doesn't work out, should I wait and get Victor neutered and get two baby girls for him. or would that make the whole scent issue even worse. Plus victor would need surgery which I know envolves a certain risk but what other options do I have. He's only 10 month old, he's still atleast got another 5-6 years left god willing. That's way too long to be by himself when he could be suggling up to some other Goos.
I keep thinking about his brother they sold in the pet store and how they recked it for him. His poor bother is probably all alone in someones house who hasn't got a clue.
