After seeing many homemade cages, and how awesome they are, I have decided I want to build a cage for my buddies. I don't know if this is going to happen, but if it does, I need some advise.

Thanks for sending me that article. I think I have an idea what to build. I only have one more question, though. About how big is a 100x50x100 sized cage?

Make it a bit taller than that if you can, then it's easier to fit a second full size shelf in at mid-height.

But will my degus chew through the wood?

I just put my degus in a new wood cage, and only one of them chews a corner. They tend to pick a specific spot. Just put a metal covering over it, like a metal corner bracket or something if it gets bad. They just chew on the edging mostly.

The degus cannot chew the walls if you make them straight and smooth, so just cover any exposed edges like a door for example with metal (steel not aluminium they can chew through it) or you can keep replacing it with temporary wooden covers. The article posted and written by Jordan goes through it all make sure you read it properly it has everything you need to know.
