Hello all,
I have recently decided to relocate due to a new job offering I just can't refuse. This change was not expected when I got my 2 awesome Degu's last year.
It is important to me that these animals to go to a caring home. I have 2 boys, who are 10 month old brothers. I have built the cage from scratch, inspired by both emz and Nightwishraven999.
Below you can see pics of my Degu's, Graham & Colin, as well as the cage and various accessories.
The cage is 102x62x120cm (base, depth, height). The perspex front is fully removable using the metal pins covering the wood on top of the upper runners. This makes cleaning pretty straight forward. There is a low profile tube light in the top which I have on for 15 hours a day using a timer.
In terms of accessories, I have the following:
2 bamboo roots
2 bendy wooden bridges (one very large)
1 wooden half tunnel
a small terra cotta vase
a medium size terra cotta semi spherical vase
2 feeding bowls
a glass & stainless steel water bottle
a marble rock
a small granite tile
a large tree root
half a coconut shell
a rope and wooden perch
a John Hopewell sand bath (with roof)
a John Hopewell travel cage (as pictured above) (this is around 60cm long and 20cm square
a small leftover bag of timothy hay
a bag of mini alfaffa bales
All of the above accessories and the Degus are free to a loving home.
Graham is very inquisitive and likes to be the first on the scene if something is happening. Although the smaller of the 2, he does seem to be boss !
Colin is laid back and tends to relax. He does like his food !!
I have always been the type that does not want to push them into coming out onto my shoulder. I regularly place my hands in the cage, and they are happy to fall asleep on them ! They also come out the cage on a daily basis for a run around my room. I have no doubt that fully taming them would be no problem at all.
As you can see, I don't currently have a wheel. Unfortunately the previous 1 has recently broken and as they will soon be leaving me ( ), I see little reason to get a new one at the moment.
I am based in Nottingham and I'm willing to travel up to an hour in any direction. Any further and I feel it will distress the pair, which is the last thing I want!
I am driving to the Lake District on Thursday or Friday evening this week, and could drop off on route if required (from Notts, through Stoke-on-Trent, up M6).
I do not have transport for the cage due to its size, and would need 2 people to assist with loading it into their own transport if it was being taken.
I am moving towards the end of June. I do hope to have re-homed them both by that date. I am not willing to separate the pair as they have been together since birth.
Neither have any health problems. They have been eating Degu specific foods since I 'rescued' them from a P@H cage, where they were with a couple of 'males' (I was quickly informed that they were only 10 weeks old and therefore couldn't reproduce......rubbish)!
Please can someone out there be kind enough to take on these 2 amazing animals .
Any questions, please ask.
Many thanks
Steve
