Hi, i am looking at a new cage for my Alfie, soon I hope, but it has no platforms in it - i have a few spare ones from my 2nd old cage, but i would be grateful if anyone knows where i could get some nice sized wooden platforms to put in the cage? i really hope we do get the next cage - its a old parrot cage on wheels and measure 5 ft 6 from floor to top. many thanks Natasha

You can buy wooden shelves from Ebay, here are a few I know of: Shelfridges (Click!), Ranch House Cages and Cage PlanI have brought from all 3 of these eBay sellers and their all very fast with delivery. I was disappointed with Cage Plan's shelves, as they weren't very strong but I manage to get around it by using the same way Shelfridges' shelves attach to the cage (Cage Plan uses Wingnuts and plates, where as Shelfridges' use screws and plates). I'd personally by from Shelfridges, but that is just me as I was the most happy with their shelves (quality, price, strength etc).

You can buy untreated pine wood from most builders merchants / b&q etc and just attach them with metal washers and screws.
If your cage is very tall it is safer to make sure you dont have any drops higher than 18" but if you stagger the shelves then that should do the trick

thats great - i will have a look at those sites now - i will make sure i dont have the drops bigger than 18 inches - i have spoken to this guy about the cage and he said there is a bit of rust on there, but i am hoping its not too bad - i have been looking for a bigger cage for a while, so i am hoping it is good one - i will then try and sell my old one, its only a year old and i paid £100 for it, so even if i can sell it for £20 it will pay towards the new one as its £30 or if not see if a rescue wants it as its in really good condition, though i dont know of any rescue centres for chins near me.

I am just outside of Cardiff. It's a shame about the cage as it was just over 5 ft 6.
