Hi - i have in my cage for my 4 degus shelving made from kiln dried pine, which i have been cleaning on a weekly basis, however over the last few weeks the shelves are now beginning to smell of degu wee. Has anyone got any ideas if i could replace these shelves with another type of wood/material that does not absorb the wee. What have other people used to get rid of this problem?
Thanks

I made my shelves out of MDF with a kiln dried pine edging so it is safe for my goos to chew. I have covered the shelves with self adhesive floor tiles. This protects the MDF and means that the shelves are 'wipe clean'.
You could use any wood as long as there aren't any bits that are accessible to chew.
The packs of tiles are really cheap too. I know that some people also use ceramic tiles, but this seems to be more directed at covering mesh shelves to protect the goos feet.

i use tiles even on my wooden shelves, as i can just take them up and put them in the sink. Have been to a local shop today, to get some more, and they cost me 11p each! xx

Get some rodent spray, spray and rub with a toothbrush, then turn it around... that will give you more time. That's what I'll be doing.
