Is there any way to keep them from tipping their food bowl over? Well, you could use heavier ceramic bowl if you want. But leave it on the ground floor so it won't fall on them. Also it's better to get more bowls then one as they usually tip it over while fighting over it.

They dont normally tip it over while fighting they normally try to sit in it lol and it is on the ground of the cage bit as you can see its tipped over lol and pets ay home dont do ceramic ones for small animals well the one by me doesnt

Here's my new degu cage that I've finally finished about two weeks ago. It is 1.22m length x 0.6m depth x 1.3m height with a CARA of 21,140 (ideal for 4 degus). However I am going to put another shelf after Christmas holidays so that will increase the CARA for 6 degus. I have more pictures on my blog.

I just wrote down a list of stuff that I could put in my new cage when it's done Maybe you can get some ideas from it, too. Here goes: Big branches, tree stumps, wooden bridges, wooden ladders Hammocks, ropes, wooden houses, cardboard pipes Running wheel, saucer Terracotta pots, big rocks, hay caves (unsure of the proper English word here, sorry) Half coconuts, digging area, bathing area I've surveyed lots of cage pictures and got a lot of ideas from that, so now I basically have a drawing of the entire layout I'm going to have

Brilliant cages ava and nuttz. Nuttz, that new cage of your's is huge! I love the pics of them curled up on the little shelves. Mine do exactly the same, I look at them and think I have given you a massive cage and you just want to curl up on the smallest ledge possible!

Hello I was wondering if someone could tell me where you get the big silver wheels from? I have never seen them before and my boys would love it

nuttz, I saw that same shelf unit when we were out a couple of weeks ago, and was telling hubby how easy it could be turned into a giant goo cage! (and then, of course, we'd need more goos...). Even pointed out how by putting the shelves in upside down it would give sides to help hold the woodchips in! But alas...we don't have a space to put something that size in unless we do a major rearrange of the whole house...and hubby's hand/wrist will be in rehab for many more months, so even just moving furniture, let alone building, is not an option right now... and I still want to build the long cage along the top edge of the room, but again, not something that can be done one-handed.... sigh.

Hi very impressed with the new cage build. I am adopting today and the cage they are living in the moment is so small its criminal. I want to try and build my own and was wondering what wood to make the shell of the cage from. Could I use MDF ? thinking not, incase they chew it but was thinking if it was tiled would be ok. Obviously the shelves I would use safe wood for the Degus.

Hey jwin4410, good to hear you are thinking about adopting, thats great news! im also pleased to hear that you are thinking about building a wooden cage! I infact recommend building your enclosure from MDF, if you live in the UK its by far the cheepest and most workable sheet material. Check the link that Tiiyn above me suggested nightwishravens guides are truly fantastic! You can also check my blog here (http://deguchronicles.weebly.com/) , I have shown some more detailed pictures of the assembly of a wooden enclosure built from MDF. Also check stormsongs blog in the blog section, she has build a great homemade enclosure just recently! deguworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=blogs&action=display&thread=9035
