Same here. When I had built my first cage a few years ago, I noticed the degus were much more active and seemed overall more content. Building a cage was a defenite step forward for them and for me !

My girls moved in on friday, and one of them has decided to chew a corner. It isn't doing much but I may have to do something about it. Otherwise they alternate between mellow and excited. Overall, I'm very happy I decided to build a cage myself. I don't have pictures online yet but I should soon.

I wish I had more money I have had a new cage planned for months. I found once you build your first cage - you can't stop!

Emma, I feel the same way. Its rather addictive ! Each time you build a cage it becomes better and easier.

Finally have a picture of the finished cage! All shelves are removable and the second from the top shelf is now accessed via bird ladder.

This is an example of a cage my ex built for my Degu's which I totally believe was not suitable at all and not what I asked him to build at all. This is the reason I bought the Large Sky Cage. They were in this for 2 nights and happy jumping up and down but what a hassle getting in to it and getting them out of it. NEVER BUILD THIS it's rubbish lol H107 x W40 x L64 cm shelves were 7" long not enough ground space to run on for levels I had asked for 300 h x W70 x L150 He either cant measure or can't listen to instructions still not sure which lol

I don't think it's suitable either, it has a plastic base, and the wire mesh holes look to big for a start Ah well at least they have a nice cage now, and is this one of the reasons why he's now an ex? lol

Partly that an he was just really arrogant towards me after a few months his true colors started to come through. I not going to stay with someone who put's me down at every turn esp when I did nothing but praise him and encourage him in anything he did. P.S I did show him cages on this site and what did want This cage is nothing like the Great cages I have seen

So this is my cage. Its 3 joined PAH cages with access holes in the trays. It houses 2 single degus. They both have 1.5 sections each. I couldn't get it all on one photo so have done a few. I will be posting an updated photo soon as I still have a few things to add. The middle section looks a bit empty but I put their sandbaths in that bit. I am also in the process of making them a metal saucer disk. I will add when they are happy together and the mesh divider is gone. They can have it for playtime for now. Please post any thoughts or ideas! Kat x

I think you've done very well, Kat! I hope they will soon become seriously happy together so that they may enjoy the whole span of such well appointed spaces. Well done!

@ Missdegu, it looks like a great cage! If I were to suggest anything, it would be to add another full level somewhere in the middle to increase the over all floor space. Your degus will really like that.
