ive noticed that most of the threads in the chat section really belong in other areas, i see lots of questions about cages, accessories, if a certain food is safe, etc in the off topic chat section. i think it would be beneficial if the moderators moved these posts to their appropriate sections. and also maybe make a sticky post in the chat section explaining what it is to be used for.

I think that the chat forum is visible for all who want to see it, and to be honest, the mods all have lives away from the forum, and continually moving threads that dont hurt being where they are is a pointless waste of time.

yeah, its there for people who want to chat about things other than degus, if someone isnt interested in that, then they wont go and read that section and miss some topics that they could probably help with if they were in the appropriate forums. people will get the idea and start posting in the right places after a bit.

to be more accurate, the chat forum is for non-degu threads as well as degu-related threads that either fit in more than one category, or the poster doesn't know which category it would belong to. my first post on this forum was a thread with multiple questions spanning several of the categories, so i put it in chat. even if one chooses not to browse the chat forum, thread titles are still visible from the main page so that interested parties can read individual threads if they'd like.
i can't speak for everyone, but i usually only move threads when they're wholly unsuited for the forum they're in - i.e. a thread grieving the loss of a degu being posted in chat or feeding. as long as a forum isn't lying stagnant while suitable threads are clogging up chat, i don't see much of a problem in leaving those threads where they are.

*sigh* please realize that there is a difference between offering a suggestion, and telling moderators how to do their jobs.

the feedback thread on my forum was created when the forum was new. It was to enable me, as the single moderator at the time, a chance to spot the major issues with the forum and change them. There have been many good suggestions made, which have been incorporated into the forum when possible.
The chat thread was created as a response to a request as somewhere for people to chat generally, be it about non degu matters, or general observations that did not neatly fit into another thread. The chat thread has become incredibly popular, and I am glad to see that.
I look at all the threads whenever I get the chance, as do all the mods to ensure the smooth running of this forum, however, the forum is a voluntary service, so I have never once made any demands of the mods, nor do I plan to. So trawling through posts to see if they could be moved to another part of the forum when in reality the forum as a whole is small enough that any posts will be read and replied to no matter where they are posted.
The primary role of the mods is to ensure that the general rules on behaviour and conduct are maintained, that the site is kept running smoothly, and that problem members are dealt with, with minimal fuss. The mods have been picked for their superb knowledge and dedication to degus, rather than their computing skills, and that is by far the way I would like it.
Your thread was not responded to in any way designed to be percieved as rude, it was simply stated that the role of mods wasnt for moving threads that didnt really need to be moved. It wasnt a complaint about the suggestions and feedback thread being used, it was just stating that I wasnt about to get the mods to spend all their free time moving posts.
Diet Otaku responded as us mods stick together, we help each other as we cant all be here all the time. We have a similar outlook on how the forum should run, so can offer suggestions to posts not aimed primarily at ourselves.
I am sorry if you feel that your suggestions have not been viewed positively on this occasion, I would not like you to develop a negative opinion of the site, as its the members that keep it going.

thank you, that was a much friendlier response than your original. it was the "pointless waste of time" part that got me, like my suggestion was just an unworthy waste of space. and then when i commented on your response, diet otaku responded in rude manner. helping each other out is great! but i dont believe the mods should ever be rude to members in that way. the only reason i made the suggestion was not to try and tell mods how to do their job, it is simply something that is done on most other forums i visit that have helped a great deal on THOSE forums, therefore it was simply a suggestion that i felt could POSSIBLY help your forum run more smoothly and get more responses to peoples questions. if you feel that it is unnecessary and would not be beneficial here in your forum (im not used to small forums such as this so did not know if it would help or not which is why it was stated merely as a suggestion, it was in no means a demand to the mods) i am perfectly ok with that.

I dont think that Diet responded in a rude manner, none of the mods wish to offend members of the site.

Well I kind of have to agree with Julie. It would be useful to at least have a sticky or something saying what somewhat random sections like meeting place and chat are for. I spent about 20mins trying to figure out why 2 seperate areas exist and after reading posts in both they seem to have much the same stuff. There are also threads on just about everything in both sections. I took a guess from the name that meeting place was the better place for a first introductory thread and chat was more for nondegu posts but it was completely a guess. When first looking at the forum neither section seems to have any specific purpose and in my opinion if there is not going to be any restrictions on what is posted in either they'd be better off combined.

that's a good point... perhaps "meeting place" could be for intros and nonspecific degu questions, and chat could be for non-degu threads?
