ok....i sold all the girl googles ......(5 total & 1 boy.....) to what i thought was a great new google owner tobe.
i sold their cage....the wheel...etc. gave her a print out of ALL the info i could think of...... a starter kit of food....a water bottle....& treats of all kinds ( peanuts...sunflower..pumpkin..rosebuds...)
first day she emailed me they are very hard to hold have they been handled much? I think when they have babies if I start when they are little they will be more tame?? what do you think?
of course when she was here ....i went over that....& wrote about it in the packet....
i told her to chillout with them....give them a chance to be in their new surroundings....etc.
today ...( she has had them 3 whole days) .....she emailed me this:
Did you know of anyone else that was interested in the degus? I am deathly allergic and having serious asthma attacks..
i am quite angry at this point......who knows what type of environment she has them in.....she orig. told me that her sons were "experienced with exotics"....& that the googles were for them...
so i am rather confused why she is having trouble .... werent they for the boys? ...so i emailed her this back :
i thought i recommended not handling them for a few days....to let them chill & get to know their surroundings.....
unless you grabbed on....& it scratched you? then it may itch a bit where the scratch is.....
tell me what is going on ....so i can help you figure it out...... =)
where in the house do you have them? i thought you got them for the boys?
it has only been a few days......i dont understand why you would want to give up so easily.... that saddens me....
what would you all do about this??......it breaks my heart that i may have given them to a person who will not be a good fit .....i am soooo pissed ...

so sad to hear this phoenixm.
its a pity so many ppl treat they like tame toys rather than take the time to get to know them.
i dont know ur personal circumstances ... but i personally would prob take them back and try to find a new home for them. She must have them in a cage with accessories and its the least she can do to give u the cage!
hope it works out ok

i sold her MY cage that they were living in......for a STEAL! .....she just emailed me back :
same bedding you were using.. I have severe asthma and read up to make sure I would be okay with them but I am not, it is so bad I have to go to the er today cuz my oxygen level is super low... They are adorable but not worth dying over, if you know what I mean..
& i answered :
it cant be the googles...i have NEVER heard of them being a cause of asthma........i think its that new long haired dog of yours =) the cute new black one on your FB profile.....or the cat?
could it be that you just wanted a little animal to cuddle ......& these just arent working out because you are chasing them?
you didnt answer my question....where in the house do you have them? i thought you bought them for the boys.
i am confused...
& wish you would just tell the truth ....if it is that they arent what you thought they were going to be? fine.....
there maybe a petstore around you who would take them ......or a friend of your boys?
****************************
personally? ...i think she is pissed....& isnt they type of person to allow them to just "be"...she needs a hamster or something .....i think she is a very impulsive person....& didnt really think this thru......her statement of " i HAVE to go....".....not " i WENT".....tells me she is full of nuts......
i wish she would just come clean about it........

I'd do the same as arumanii personally, just take them back without further fuss...but SHE is bringing everything back exactly as it was when she got them and personally I would have included a percentage fee on returns (probably 20%) that she doesn't get back.
Getting her to admit the truth is about as useful as giving a priest a condom, won't make any difference to the end result.

heres her latest email:
I do not have a dog or a cat, those are pics of the boys but are not ours, I was dog sitting for him and the boys didn't like his name so wanted to change it.. That was a week ago there have not been any animals in my house since. I did buy them for the boys and they are in the living room, buying them for the boys has nothing to do with the fact I can't breathe. Asthma isn't just about the dander. I did not expect this or I certainly would not have spent $150 on them. My point now is I want them to have a good home that is why I asked you if you knew anyone. On the cuddlie part, I was certainly under the impression that you could hold these guys and my boys cant even catch them they are fast... But that has NOTHING to do with why I need to find them a new home.
i wrote back ...suggesting that she both read the booklet of wealth of info on them ...as well as perhaps ...get a hamster?.......that degus are NOT to be chased......that will only prove to decrease ANY trust you may have built.....which..lets be honest here.....SHE>HAD>THEM>FOR>THREE>DAYS!~ ARGHGHGHGH

Sounds like an ignorant person who did not do any research themselves before hand.
I'd definitely take them back and maybe re-home to an experienced degu owner. Only give her 100 dollars out of the 150 in return for her wasting your time.

Phoenixm, I too would recommend taking them back from this lady. However, I am just curious if there is an urgent need for you to have them re-homed? If there is, does this conflict with you being able to take them back for a time? Have you been trying to re-home them?
I'm sorry for the anguish and frustration this is causing you. You must be feeling quite worried for your babies, and a little panicked as to what their near future will hold. It does seem as though you have not been given the full facts on the home situation they were being taken in to. (I'm a little confused as to whether there are "boys" or just a "boy." She seems to use both plural and singular when refering to the boy(s).)
Please keep us up on what is developing?

she came to her senses.......
"I think your right....lol"
so......i guess now i just wait to see if she wants me to take them back.....OR ....if she gave patience and understanding another try....

Let her know that they are also definitely cuddly given enough time. "On the cuddlie part, I was certainly under the impression that you could hold these guys"
They ARE cuddly and holdable, but they don't just trust anyone who comes along like some stupid dog might :-)

Just a little side note, I'm asthmatic and I am very allergic to rabbits. Before I took our two degu babies on I made sure I was going to be ok. The hay can cause asthma to flare up but there are many ways around that, It sounds a bit of a cop out. Hope it all works out ok! :-)

thanx blossom.....i know shes full of it...i double checked her face book....& under a foto of a HUGE black superthick coated black dog she wrote this:
Need help coming up with name for Vader, he is my new puppy yes he is still a puppy....
& (when someone asked ...."anotherdog!"...)
Mandy Stolkner Henderson We only have him.. He is our only pet now..
so she outright lied to me ....even when i called her on what i read.....either she completely forgot what she wrote on her FB page? ....or..shes not the bright to realize she got busted.....
either way ....i havent heard from her since she wrote "i think you're right" ....

I would go there if you know where she lives and take them back. :S
I am concerned about the safety of your degus with that person.

aw pheonixm sounds like you are in a reet perdicament here! ive only had my little goos a month now but i tried to make sure that i read up as much as was physically possible before getting my little lovelies...the woman obviously has not. im afraid to say i agree with everyone else, id take them back and dock some of the money off of her. she doesnt seem fit to look after them - i mean obviously she could drop down dead any minute is she cant breathe. hope you manage to figure it all out! tanya xxx ps saw your website yesterday...tres cool

i have just read this.... how annoying, gutting and poopie lol my thoughts this woman thought aww little cute baby pets that i can pic up and cuddle all day long. she probably didnt really look up on them and thought they would be an easy pet to have. have you got them back then? or has she still got them? i your stil emailing her about them i would personally just take them back off her as it sounds like its getting a little petty, no offence but if she dont want them she dont want them and anyone will make up any poo excuse to get them away, besides if shes so allergic to the degus she cant feed them change the water or clean them out... im sure her boys wont do tht as its a "mums" job. just like my mum had to do all that when i had hamsters. hope they are ok tho

I'd like to know, too, but we haven't seen Phoenixm in months and months. I have no idea what the outcome may have been.
