Good stuff, I despise hunters. I can understand pest control if it is absolutely necessary but it is one thing shooting them so that they wont suffer, its another thing entirely to find a chase a terrified animal until it is so exhausted that it cant run any further then torture it by ripping it to pieces in the name of fun. I cannot understand how people can possibly be so inhumanely cruel to another little being. It is completely beyond me. I just think hunters are the most evil despicable people. Perhaps that is a politically controversial view but I get a little passionate in my disgust at bloodsports.
I am really struggling with what to do about those jirds. The thing is I refuse to pay a fortune for them and support the trade but I also cant see the little things suffering in a completely unsuitable environment. I also have no room for any more creatures and would have to fork out £40 to buy them (which I dont have!) in order to "rescue" them and then would have to put them straight up for rehoming hoping that someone would want them as I couldnt keep them. The other problem is that because they have never been handled in the shop (and god only knows what conditions they came from before) they are very nervous and would take a special person with an awful lot of patience to rehome them to to bring them round to trusting people.
Its really hard as most people who know the shop can see how withdrawn they look, but as I have their two brothers I can also see that there is a world of difference between the two pairs now both in their physical appearance and in their psychological presentation. It is so sad.

its a real shame cus its generally a nice shop...they just dont seem to have time to handle their rodents daily...i wish i had a place to put them but sadly atm it just isnt possible to buy a suitable tank as cages are apparently no good...poor jirds...i will just have to keep saying hello to them when i go in for crickets and see if there is any improvement in their living conditions.....
Went into P@H today to see if their degus are back....a few weeks ago they had 6 babies and 3 days later they were gone and a friend of mine who works there told me they had mites so had to be removed from display but still no degus....did notice however a willow ring hangin up in their cage....not good!...and saw a beautiful chinchilla...all white and fluffy...and awake!!!...the usual lone chin in there is usually asleep so it was nice to see them active...even if briefly.

I was talking fox hunters, should have been more specific. Again, no problem with people who hunt to eat (as long as it is killed humanely), just a problem with people who like to tear live animals to pieces for fun!!

'foxhunters' is also too broad a generalisation.
i used to see a girl whose parents owned a farm in wales. once a year they would go out hunting foxes, by shooting them, because there were too many and they pestered the livestock.

ok, before this gets far too political!!! As stated in my original entry earlier on it, I have no problem with pest control by shooting when it is necessary. I mean the people who sit on horses, run a pack of dogs, have lookouts posted everywhere who update them if police are near and then rip the creatures to pieces in the name of sport.
Think this thread will need renaming soon! Back to degus and jirds anyone?!!

Poor wee jirdies. Looks like im guna have to do ur shopping for u in that shop now eh fliddie? Oh well u can repay me by doing my P@H shopping for me due to my insane fear of the roundabout by it!! Those P@H chinnies are sweet. They are quite big ones - i wonder how old they are? One has a bit of his tail missing by the looks of it - mind u of of my lads does too - the breeder said it probs happened wen he was born.
