Chinchillas live really well together males tend to become mature around 7 months old. This is the time I find them most troublesome. They often get a little dominating at this stage. Every chin is different males tend to live happily together as long as their are no females around. We have kept large groups of one castrated male and 4 + females. Or pairs castrated male/female, female/female. Its always best to just have one castrated male in a group of females as more males can cause havoc. Stick to these rules and all should be well. I have known of chins badly beat/kill each other. This can be newly introduced or pairs who have lived together for years. But on the whole they normally get on well and live happily. From what I have seen of Degus they seem to be far more dominating.
