Hey all!!
I hope you are doing well. I haven't posted on here in a while, but all your previous advice made a big difference in my early experiences of owning degus. My degus are much better off for it and are still happy and healthy and thriving critters!! So firstly, thank you all!
Though I am perhaps not entirely technically a newbie, I do feel like I am so I hope it is OK posting here.
For the past 3-4 months, I have used a few mats in my cage, these ones packagepets.com/products/rosewood-boredom-breaker-chill-n-chew-mat?currency=GBP&variant=12934383534169&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&gclid=CjwKCAjwopWSBhB6EiwAjxmqDT1FL-xtT0q8WOi7_kzD3SnefIXgasMdQ3Zau0FkRgQV_OneRhJfxxoCpY8QAvD_BwE
I have been using them a while and no problems. I have 4 in there, which is about 20-30% of their overall floor space, and I replace them relatively regularly, because of if they get a little sodden (they dont chew them). But it has recently occured to me that maybe this isn't right to have so many in there. They are described as chew toys and places to rest. Whereas the reason I started using them was because they are degu safe and I wanted to mix up floor textures because degus like stimulation. I have substrate everywhere else, as well as platforms. And I line the floor spaces with cardboard (no print).
I havent had any problems, but I was just wondering what you guys thought? Should i just use one as a bedding area, like under their corner hut? Or do you think it is fine, or even good, making these different types of floor material? I hope I havent done anything wrong. I know they havent shown any problems so far with it. Should I be looking out for any particular problem that might occur?
