Don't worry, newborn degu is your current rating as a new member. This will change when you reach 50 posts! I think the pictures may be private? I'm afraid I can't access them. Hosting photos and posting the links is perfect, as we don't have much server space. If you want to show the actual picture, add {IMG} at the start of the link, and {/IMG} at the end without spaces, but using square brackets Sorry, the BB coding won't let me show the square brackets Regarding the tail, I've found that mine go through different phases. At the moment, I have one with a bald tail, and his brother has the fluffiest, bushiest tail going! The others are at different stages in between. If you think dry and scaled skin may be contributing, rubbing olive oil will help. Just be careful you don't accidentally deglove when she tries to get away. Is her sister actually trying to bite the tail, or is she being keen by trying to groom it into a better state with zeal?

If it's a degradation, you may also want to consider something like a fungal infection, but you'll need a trip to the vet to confirm.
Once the pics are available, I may be able to add more.

postimages.org/ is straightforward for image hosting. The link to copy and paste I think is called 'hotlink for forums'.

The picture permission has been updated should work now I'm not sure how to use the forum very well. Her tail is dusty in the photos as well

I can see three of your photos now, and that is pretty much what a naked degu tail looks like. I personally am not alarmed by what I see in your photos. The skin on the tip looks rather dry, but not in a threatening way. I would guess that there is some assertive grooming going on, but it isn't harming her. We have a few degus on the forum that sport some rather extreme barbering fashions as a result of the creative affections of a cage mate. LOL!
I don't think it warrants isolating her. That could result in bad feelings between her and her sister. It won't hurt to try some oil on it. As with anything that raises questions, but are not pressing, keep an eye on it. If you see changes, or feel we aren't seeing what you are seeing, please ask any and all questions and post some more pictures . . . but maybe on a different background that isn't the same color as the skin of her tail.

I'm not too worried about what I see. It's very similar to one of mine.
You can try olive oil to help soften the skin, or just leave it. I would certainly keep an eye on siblings' grooming!
She's very well behaved to just sit there for photos!

Yeah, that doesn't look all that bad. It looks like someone might have slightly nibbled on the end of the tail so that it's become a bit rounded and scarred. Or that could just be dry skin.
But other than that, the tail itself looks healthy. It hasn't descaled and it looks tidy and nice. Like others have suggested, you can likely rest easy unless something more starts happening with it.

She's very well behaved to just sit there for photos! She is an angel but did give me some scratches on the back of my hand since she was a baby we have been playing a game where you keep flipping your hand while she climbs. Her sister is so typical and also has the same problem but not nearly as bad just the end puff is gone but I love those little end puffs. Maybe a perfect size wheel will help does anyone have a link for a perfect size affordable wheel?

When it comes to wheels, tictac are probably the best, although a little more expensive than most. They are silent and last for years! You are going to need a minimum size of 14inches, larger if you want your degus to run together. Heres the link to their clearance section www.tictacwheels.co.uk/clearance
