While Nov. 4 feels like long ways away yet, it sounds like Toffee is doing well, and that is WONDERFUL news!!

Ah, I'd missed this post earlier. That sounds very good. Congratulations, I know all this is very trying for the owner as well. You've done a great job keeping things together Rodents have a very fast metabolism, so thankfully the healing is also quick. After the wound has closed and the threads come off, the worst of it is behind you. How have things been? Has she taken her medicine nicely? It sounds like she has adjusted to the new situation well.

Yeah, i am very happy that she is doing well 😊 and it was very expensive 🙈🙈
Medicine.. She still hate it. And she is very intelligent. I Wrap her in a towel and my girlfriend is putting the medicine in her mouth with a syringe. But i get harder every time 😅 toffee now is moving her head and sometimes, When one of her paws slippes trough the towel, she pushes the syringe away with it 😂
Yesterday she tried to nibble my Fingers, but softly 🙈 but then she sat on my Hand for the first time till the Amputation 🎉😊

It's always a sign they're feeling better when then struggle more against the indignity of being restrained.
Glad to hear she's doing well.

Yeah, that sounds pretty standard. They quickly learn how to resist. I actually found it easier to use a glove to hold a degu for giving medicine, but I have fairly large hands, so it's easy for me to essentially wrap my mitt around them. But as Savvy says, it's a good sign that she has the energy and spunk to resist. Sounds like she's making a great recovery

I put the medicine on a Versele-laga Herb Complete Crock treat (split in in half, then put the drops onto the soft interior part of the treat) then let it dry, and then feed it, a piece at a time (making sure they eat it, not bury it) to the degu needing the anti-biotic. Most of mine love those treats so they happily eat the medicated pieces.
Another thing I do is mix the antibiotic with baby food (squash, sweet potato, pea - any flavour they like as long as it does not contain sugar) or other soft wet food like ground almonds (mixed into a slurry with a bit of warm water) or oatmeal - many of my goos, especially those who are elderly or experience dental issues, like to eat this. Just have to make sure that they eat it all so best to test which food they like and how much they will eat at a time. Mine will eat a teaspoon at a time.

Well . . . it wouldn't hurt to call and ask the Vets about that. I would think that with the stitches out and Toffee doing so well, she should be OK to have the wheel in, even if it is just for short periods of time each day.

Good to hear that she's doing well! I agree with Deguconvert that it's likely best to ask the vet, but if the stitches have been taken out and she's doing well, I would guess that it's alright to let her start moving more again, even if it's just for a short time each day to begin with.
Starting out though, it's likely best to only give them the wheel when you can keep an eye out on it. Even if the amputated leg itself won't suffer from running, it's possible that the first days will be a bit of trial and error for her, when she gets used to moving on the wheel again. So making sure that there are no mishaps is a good idea.

Hey, haven't heard from Toffee lately. Has she been doing fine and getting used to her new life?

Hi, sorry for Not responding 🙈 She is doing well i think. She is going well with three legs, running and playing with creamy and is eating well. The only Thing is, She became shy again, hiding when i aproach the cage. But i think and hope that this will become better Over time

Ah, good to hear that she is doing well! It doesn't sound too surprising that she's been shy lately. She's been through quite an ordeal, after all. I'm sure that it will pass with time, as she understands that things are alright and nothing like this will happen again. You've done really well with all this
