Just noticed that Inken's breathing is rapid and shallow. She is refusing food even rolled oats, her favourite treat. She is sitting very still and hunched - not feeling well. Very concerned. It is a Civic holiday tomorrow so all veterinarians offices are closed until Tuesday. Not sure what to do.
This came on suddenly. Any idea what it might be?

Maybe the rapid breathing is due to pain (?) Put Metacam on a treat. She ate a little of the soft centre, then dropped it. Could she be in pain from a spur?

I'm so sorry, Yasmin! Did she get enough Metacam in her to make a difference? Has anything improved? Any sign of eating other things?
When is the last time she had a dental?

Could be a dental issue. She is 6 and a half years old and has never had a dental checkup. She probably did not get enough Metacam - I don’t see any improvement. She ate an oat but with difficulty. I am going to try some thawed peas. (Might be my imagination but she also seems hesitant to use her arms/hands. When I gave her the treat this morning, she held it for a moment, then dropped it.)

She could have an injury following a mishap, see how she is with the metacam but I'd get her to the vet for a check up.

It sounds as if there's some sort of underlying dental issue, even if it's not the cause. Has there been any improvement from the metacam? Have you tried some cc or baby food?

She was eating yesterday morning so something suddenly happened between then and evening. No signs of dental issues previous to this (no drooling, blood, eating issues, eye issues) but I saw her paw at her mouth this aft.
I will try cc tonight as well as Metacam. Will call the vet first thing tomorrow morning.

I wonder if something is lodged that is obstructing or wedged in a painful place? Or maybe she has a spur that has begun to pierce something inside? I hope you can get your vet on the phone and they can get you in to see them asap. You have an excellent vet!

Went to closer vet who could take her in ASAP but they don’t want to do scope without sedation and feel she is in too poor condition for that or for a CT scan. They are prescribing Baytril. If it is something lodged in her throat or a spur, this is not adequate. I am going to see if I can get a second opinion from Dr Auger.

She did not eat Crick treat this morning but did eat part of a clover leaf and a whole dandelion leaf. She looks like she has lost a lot of weight but I did not notice her not eating until Sunday night.

That is too bad, and I know you are feeling frustrated and disappointed. I hope you can see your regular Vet with her very soon. Do they do emergency visits?

I have an appointment at 3:20 pm. Inken is so weak. We tried to give her the Baytril and the Metacam as prescribed but only succeeded with the Baytril. She struggles and it takes all of her energy to resist. She still is only eating dandelion and arugula leaves. Turns her nose to ground oatmeal, ground pellets, broccoli leaves. I think she is dying - don’t want to force medication and Critical Care on her unless there is some hope.. Poor dear girl 😞 will take her in - see if Dr Auger can check her with a scope and get his opinion on whether to go ahead with medication etc. Wish I knew what the problem is and if there is any hope.

She”s turning away from all food now. Going to let her sleep - see what tomorrow brings.

My day got away on me yesterday, and I didn't see the new messages. Poor lovely Inken! How is she, and how are you?? My heart is rushing to you and wishing I could give you a big hug right now.

Inken passed away while she was being examined. Massive heart attack. The vet said he saw no issue with her teeth but that her chest felt spongy - thinks she may have been dying of cancer. Inken was a very pretty goo. We had a routine where I would pick her up and then feed her oats, and then take her to say hi to Jet. She loved that. We did that together Saturday night. Rest in peace, beautiful girl.

I'm so sorry Yasmin. If it was a tumour, there's nothing you or the vet could have done, especially given the location.
