Foraging Degu

Hello! I'm posting because of a potential dental problem. My degu Daewoo (11 months old) has seemingly very healthy teeth except for the fact that his top two are very slightly off-centre. He's fine and loves to eat and bite sticks/toys and his top teeth don't seem to interfere with his bottom ones. He does a bit of cage biting but not more than the average degu. I'm aware that offset teeth can be a problem so I'm wondering if the teeth being really only ever so slightly off would be something worth a trip to the vet for despite it not causing any problems currently. Any advice or things to watch out for would be appreciated. Thanks!

To be honest, there isn't much that can't be done with wonky front teeth. If they just grow slightly off centre, then I'm sure it's something Daewoo can cope with. Alternatively, a misalignment can be caused by trauma (knock or break) will usually sort itself out.

I agree Bouncy and was going to say the same thing.

Other option could be that the lower jaw is off centre, worth having a look to check if everything else looks in alignment.

The misalignment may cause dental issues like spurs in the future. When you start noticing drooling, or if he stops eating foods that he normally enjoys, bleeds from the mouth, is losing weight, or paws at the mouth - all signs of a potential spur – that would be the time to take him to see the vet. At his young age, I expect it will be a few years before any issues develop.
