So clearly its good to be on good terms with the vet techs! I literally just got a call saying they had a cancelation for 2pm tomorrow! She asked if I could make it work and when I said absolutely, she laughed and said good, because she'd already put my name down!

Oh, that's really lucky! Hopefully they can help him! Wishing you luck!

Thank you Teemu!
So essentially the same weight as yesterday (177g). Not going up, but not decreasing really either at the moment. He just pooped right in front of me, its a nice healthy looking poop!
Wild speculation, maybe the benadryl really did cause some sort of issue? Now that I look back over it again, while he has been slightly losing weight since mid May, a few days after his first dose is when the first real drop happened.
I need to stop overthinking this and wait to hear what the vet has to say. But either way he's had a good play time tonight, happily peeing everywhere!

If it's any help, I know when my hayfever is bad I really don't want to eat. Putting anything in my mouth stops me breathing properly because my nose is blocked and everything tastes a little dulled.
It's not surprising he's lost weight if he's experiencing this.

URI doesn't seem likely since he hasn't got worse and improved with the benadryl. Teeth don't seem likely since they were checked a month ago. Allergies seem very likely. It's just a case of if the allergies plus heat possibly plus benadryl has made him lose a little weight, or if there is something else.
I think it could be worth feeding him up for the next few days and see if his weigh stabilises or increases or not and then see the vet depending on what happens. Of course if you are really worried go ahead with the appt tomorrow.

Thanks Molette! Hoping it was just allergies started everything, heat made it worse, and some weird reaction to the benadryl.
I'm actually leaving to take him in to the vet in just a few minutes. Otherwise they can't fit him in (with me going in too) for about a week. I just want to make sure he's cleared on any infections or teeth issues. The weight loss really does have me worried, so if they have any advice to help treat the primary issue, that would be great.

I'm so late getting through all the posts today . . . are you back from your vet visit? Any discoveries or thoughts?
I was going to wonder about testing his urine with diasticks? (Not sure I have the name right . . . diabetes testing sticks for urine?)

Hope it went well, totally worth going for the peace of mind The Diastix or Ketodiastix would be good for monitoring diabetes if there is any concern that could be becoming more of an issue.

Just back from the vet, totally worth the peace of mind!
Heart and lungs are clear, vet palpated his abdomen and didn't feel and lumps. His molars seem ok, one is pointy but that one has always been pointy.
Vet seems to agree that it could either be a combo of allergies and the heat, or possibly the benadryl. He said they mostly use benadryl as a sedative in dogs, so could be he was so tired he didn't want to eat.
We're giving it a week to see if his weight stabilizes or hopefully increases. If not, then I'll need to go in so we can figure out what could be causing this.
Also, really like the suggestion of the monitoring sticks! I could just swipe those through a puddle of pee in the play area, right?

So long as you know without doubt that it is HIS pee you are swiping.

Great to get some scarier things ruled out and reassuring that the vet is thinking along the same lines as us.
I would just say with the diabetes sticks to consider whether right now is the best time for you to try them, I don't want it to become another thing for you to worry about when you are already worried. They could be useful since you are trying some different supplementary feeds, but on the other hand, if his drinking and behaviour are stable then it might be best to keep a clear head for weighing up the things already going on. Totally down to your personality as to whether more information or lower stress is more helpful to you at the moment.

I'll see if I can order some, might hold off a bit though. I've got a lot of extra stress going on so might be best to wait. ALSO! Ollie's weighed in at 178g! Never thought I would be happy with that number, but I think he had at least stabilized! And this is after a vet visit yesterday which normally would cause him to lose a few grams. He was soooo sassy just now too. Picked him up to wipe his nose and he was just not having it Too early to say, but I'm hoping my feisty boy is back!

Ollie has been holding between 177 and 179g since 6/7. So no weight gained, but thankfully no weight lost. His nose is less snotty, even without benadryl or frequent wiping. He's been very sassy and demanding the past few days as well He unfortunately doesn't seem to like any of the high calorie critical care food I'm offering though. So I'm not sure how long it will take for him to start putting on weight.

It's good that his weight has stabilized. I wonder what would work for fattening him up though, since he doesn't really wanna eat too much, or any actually fattening things... For now, just keeping him steady is very important, though. He can't afford to lose much more weight, and it's entirely possible that he'll start eating more once he feels better. So keep at it, you're doing everything you can and it's certainly not going badly at the moment

He's happy to keep eating individual sunflower seeds, but I'm afraid that might throw his calcium:phosphorous ratio off and cause teeth issues. May be worth it in the short term though?
Oh absolutely, and I do hope decreasing pollen counts and cooler weather will help his appetite. Thanks, and I'm definitely happy things are at least in a holding pattern!

Are those the only seeds he's ok with? You could balance the sunflower seeds with phosphorous-rich seeds, probably, if he eats them?

Yes, carry on with the seeds, at least for now.
Have you tried dried veg? It's fairly easy to slice some up and dry them yourself to try different ones.
